Re: Church leadership: term limits

I would say this fruit inspection process should be ongoing, with members being willing to challenge each other in areas where the fruit is starting to suggest heart problems. Are we showing brotherly love if we believe a fellow church member is not truly converted and we don't speak to him about i...

Re: Have an Anabaptist Christmas!

We aren't in the west and we don't have a Christmas service either... we do have a Christmas music program, I haven't paid attention to know exactly when it will be.

Last year we had a Thanksgiving program (held on a normal Sunday morning) which all the youth put on.

Re: POLL: Relating to Power: The Christian and Politics

I think it's useful to look at what Christians who've actually tried to "speak prophetically" have done. It seems the impulse to do so stems not from a desire to actually be a good Christian witness, but rather to find an excuse to cloak one's desire for a particular political affiliation ...

Re: "If you don't vote, you have no right to complain!"

i find Carter confusing as a politician, and as a Christian; either-or, both. more effective, after leaving office. i have a cousin who -loves- him. possibly after he left office? i'm not clear on that. I found his gushing endorsement of Hugo Chavez quite confusing, especially as Chavez's evil deed...

Good news sources: Mennonite World Review & Plain News

There are two sources of news I think are credible. One is Mennonite World Review and the other is the Plain News. Their editors both read MD and probably will read MN too. You can write letters to the editor if there's something you don't like, and their advertising rates are quite reasonable. Both...

Re: Credible News Sources

i changed, a lot, in recent years .. maybe since the advent of 24-7 "news?" the vast majority is not news, at all. personal opinion and speculation, entertainment, are not news. I agree wholeheartedly. Unfortunately, things like LifeSiteNews are firmly in this camp now. They succeed by pe...

Re: Christian Fads

"Without faith it is impossible to please God..." Nobody is making you believe it, but you will never prove it or disprove it any more than you can the born-again experience or any spiritual phenomenon. As long as you view it only from a "scientific" perspective, it will never b...

Re: Conservative Anabaptists and Birth Control

Hmm, Flint MI.... I've often thought it would be awesome for a HUGE group of Anabaptists to all decide to move and "buyout" Flint MI. Like every house that is for sale just buy - clean - move in. Start churches there. It would be such the hugest contrast for that community and also there ...

Re: Conservative Anabaptists and Birth Control

Large families are awesome and I can't imagine not having even one of my children or children to be that God intends me to have. Economy and money are pretty silly excuses in my opinion. Rice and beans are cheap... Scratch and dents stores are cheap. Thrifts stores are cheap. Economical cars are ch...

Re: POLL: Relating to Power: The Christian and Politics

What would you who chose #1 have to say about abortion? Would you say that abortion is wrong? Would you say that it ought to be illegal? Would your words change depending on whether or not your listener has a position in government? These are not rhetorical questions; I am sincerely interested to s...
