Re: A Mennonite view of divorce and remarriage

I don't see in scripture any idea of Christ being unfaithful to leaving His bride. God talks quite a bit about divorcing Israel for her chronic unfaithfulness to him, and in any case the wedding supper of the lamb is described as a future event; I don't see in scripture that Jesus and the church ar...

Re: A Mennonite view of divorce and remarriage

I just want to make it clear that no church I know of considers it encouraging divorce in the Biblical sense when they would suggest a second marriage be dissolved since they do not recognize that second marriage as legitimate before God in the first place. But again I do not expect you to understa...

Re: A Mennonite view of divorce and remarriage

Wade wrote:I don't know if I will ever be able to relate remarriage after divorce to holy living when I consider that we are to imitate Christ in faithfulness and purity.
Could you elaborate on what that means?

Re: A Mennonite view of divorce and remarriage

However the fact remains that almost any modern church that has accepted your view is only a generation from experiencing divorce and remarriage at nearly the same level as society around them. Your position may be right. But this particular observation isn't really a valid point, is it? The end do...

Re: Evidence only.

i appreciate how CM's put as high regard on chastity of males as females. Indeed, although I fear we are starting to lose this. The unchastity of the world around us is seeping in and is becoming a major problem, even for young boys in their early teens. Eventually, we are going to have to get seri...

Re: Was sin an inevitable?

God had a good reason to let it happen - theodicy is a problem philosophers are now comfortable with, and I think us mere mortals have to accept that what looks good or right to us (like a world where we don't have free wills to choose to sin) is actually not good or right at all.

Re: Separation from unbelieving family members

I think as we pursue a godly life our family can be disoriented and not want to be around us.

Often relationships with worldly family slowly are restored a few years later - especially once they see the fruits. Of course, things will never be as close as they once were, but do not lose hope.

Re: A Mennonite view of divorce and remarriage

What's this saying? But not frequently. For there is but one repentance to the servants of God. I'm wary of the idea if one just sins too much, he's beyond repentance. A few groups like Apostolic Christian Church used to believe this, with permanent excommunication for some sins with teaching one ca...

Re: Who "owns" the Conservative Anabaptists?

I find it interesting some people would feel threatened around moderate conservatives but not around Charity or FOTW. I feel great peace around moderate conservatives and good fellowship. The Midwest Fellowship meetings were a wonderful time for me. I didn't know there were so many folks with whom I...
