Re: Relating to Christmas
We might even have a few American relatives of some of our families present. Ernie, are you coming? ;) No, but maybe the following Sunday. It was good to see you lecturing up front. Sorry you didn't notice me after the service when you made a beeline for the door. I talked to your brother so that w...

Re: Should Mennonites be worrying about some of these questions?
I do not think conservative Mennonite rates for this is really much less than the national averages. Many may wish it were not so, but many are afraid to speak out in such close and familiar settings. I don't think this is correct. How would we know? I've been involved at Youth Bible Schools and ha...

Re: Using Scripture's terms and phrases
I think it's negative for our witness to the world if we demand strange ways to speak. Worldly people know what foul language is vs not foul language. But words like "kids" aren't in that. Ultimately, if we want to use language to separate ourselves, some Anabaptists (a majority in the US...

Re: Using Scripture's terms and phrases
I looked at how other translations use the word Godhead and they say "divine nature". So you make a good point here.Neto wrote:I guess that I wouldn't use the term 'Godhead' myself (and certainly not 'Trinity' or 'God in Three Persons'), because I think it goes beyond Scripture.

Re: Using Scripture's terms and phrases
Only if they eventually come to ascribe to the same definitions for the terms they use, but I'm not sure that happens. Language is a tool to convey meaning, and it seems to me that if we do not ascribe the same meanings to the words we use, then we are not really communicating. Maybe it is due to i...

Two Gospels- By Blair Adams
Of all the presentations one could view this season, I think it would be hard to find something that Jesus would be more pleased with than this one.
Enjoy.
Enjoy.

Re: Using Scripture's terms and phrases
Any discussion on the use of specific words and phrases presumes a prior agreement on the use of a specific translation. Are we using the vocabulary of the 1769 KJV, or something more recent? Maybe we should be conversing amongst ourselves in Greek and Hebrew if we want to be more rigorously script...

Re: A Mennonite view of divorce and remarriage
If the CAs want to convince the world of their position, they need to stop trying to build their case from a strictly exegetical standpoint, and rather make their case from a simple reading of scripture, coupled with a historical narrative of what it takes to build societies who intend to demonstra...
