Re: Social Security ....The monthly Check...yes or no

Incidentally, it's a much better deal for most people to invest 15.3% of their income elsewhere and use that to retire... a typical Amish person invests in real estate which is one of the best performing investments there is. Financial planners and advisors recommend not relying on Social Security ...

Re: Sattler College Turmoil

Again, the misinformation on this thread from people like Judas Maccabeus is fairly appalling ... Also concerning is the core on why this thread was started. Josh, Ernie, and others missed the key issue. Many of the students at Sattler know this but the real driver of the conflict was the former Pr...

Re: Appalachian Mennonite Church

I know this thread meandered a bit….such is life. I do wonder, does anyone KNOW, not a single person telling someone here their opinion, but really know on a more wide spread basis, has there been a groundswell of feeling in Eastern about unfair or troublesome ordination practices? I find, and unde...

Re: Complainers Thread

I hope my posting career is still going just as strong when I'm 94. You folks are going to have to put up with another five decades of me (and just imagine how much higher my post count will get).

Re: Social Security ....The monthly Check...yes or no

I get a rather small monthly check, and am enrolled in Medicare ,it's the most important card I carry. The Amish are exempt, and live it,for the most part, My own Dad lived to be 97 years old , never took a check from the system, because he was against it , and lived it,too. Medicare eligibility ha...

Re: 'anabaptist' Attitude Toward Adoption

My loving (and candid) wife says I shouldn't bother responding to your last bit, but goodness me... Persisting in denial, promoting a canard, suffering trauma, blaming less significant bogeymen, AND burying the head in the sand, all in one fell swoop! For the rest of MN who has the good sense to be...

Re: Thanksgiving

I also look forward to visiting a different church next weekend near Cincinatti. Does anyone know of plain Anabaptist presence beyond the Washington Co.-Franklin church in Washington Court House, OH or the German Baptists in Dayton? Wondering if you were able to find another spot of plain Anabaptis...

Re: War in Gaza

Politically, a lot of voters expect/want an invasion, even if it's a bad idea (particularly the extreme right-wing coalition that helped form Netanyahu's government). You could see a similar scenario after 9/11 in America when many Americans wanted us to go to war with... basically anybody.

Re: War in Gaza

For the underlying question, the best answer is that empires often seem willing to sacrifice lots of ground troops for dubious ends. For some examples, you can look at Russia and Ukraine right now, both of which are sending legions of men into a meat grinder, with neither side really achieving much ...

Re: Outcomes of Overturning Roe Vs. Wade

Ms. Cox is 20 weeks pregnant, and her fetus has been diagnosed with trisomy 18, a condition that in all but very rare cases leads to miscarriage, stillbirth or the death of the infant within the first year after birth. I fail to see why murdering this baby is “medically necessary”. If she really ne...
