Re: A Mennonite view of divorce and remarriage
I'm not sure how willing I am to let Tertullian interpret scripture for me; he felt young women needed to cover their faces like very strict Muslims do nowadays in his treatise "On the Veiling of Virgins". I expect Tertullian's view on anything to lean towards the ascetic. What Ernie quote...

Re: The electoral college
And this is an opinion page, but I suspect people in big cities agree with this while people in less populated areas disagree. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/19/opinion/time-to-end-the-electoral-college.html Ah, yes, the America that consists of NYC and LA (and maybe Chicago if we're feeling genero...

Re: Who "owns" the Conservative Anabaptists?
MCUSA, in my opinion, has much more in common with evangelical churches than with conservative anabaptist churches. I feel like literally the only thing we have in common is the name Mennonite. If MCUSA has become more like the evangelical churches, they might be looking at their future in this art...

Re: Relating to Christmas
I have never met anyone who worships Christmas trees. I think God made trees, and it's okay to put a tree indoors sometimes and decorate it. Pagans also used to do things like run slaughterhouses and have feasts where they eat meat. Paul was very clear that that doesn't mean Christians have to becom...

Re: The Trinity
I wonder how Jesus felt about people using violence and warfare to kill "heretics" who didn't believe quite the right doctrine about the nature of Jesus.

Re: Relating to Christmas
People have shared how trees, decorations and lights relate to Santa. But I have failed to see any of this relating to Christ? Could someone explain to me how a fully committed Christian who has taken up their cross and forsaking the world and does everything to His glory can relate these things to...

Re: Relating to Christmas
Things like Santa Claus, the Easter bunny, the tooth fairy, and Jack Frost are cultural traditions that have very little (if anything) to do with Christianity. The practice of them seems strange to me, since one is basically telling odd myths to one's children. But I have a difficult time condemning...

Re: Credible News Sources: The Russian Hacking Story
Will this investigation into the Russians be as thorough as the investigation into Clinton's emails?

Re: Hats
I'll let our resident Greek exegetes hash it out, but I always have understood κατακαλυπτεσθαι to mean specifically "veiled", not merely to have something covering your head. I believe there is a reasonable distinction between a veil and a hat. In these colder climes the doctrine that ins...
