Re: Word of the year: post-truth
I like the word "Drama-Queenery" myself. I only just discovered it, but I'm looking forward to using it: "Alright, enough of this drama queenery let's just solve the problem and get on with the job." Brilliant and useful...I'll start test driving it out here in MN immediately (a...
Re: Education
Around here private schools are minimal. And some of them are notoriously bad, and the good ones are notoriously expensive (and Catholic...). Generally, where I'm at, the public schools are held in higher regard. That's not to say we don't have some had school districts. If a parents wants children...
Re: Education
Something some Mennonites do is set up schools both for their own members and for the community too. In addition to a great education there is an opportunity for spiritual formation. Some of the kids join the church when they grow up, and often fit into the church very well and marry someone also i...

Re: Dr Ben Carson - Post 2016 Election
you are welcome to ignore this thread. :) I would rather not ignore the culture wars when people bring them here. I would rather not ignore turning political figures into heroes and demons and conflating good versus evil with political factions and parties. Frankly, I'd rather not spend time and ef...

Re: Dr Ben Carson - Post 2016 Election
i believe some MD/MN folks are interested in Dr Carson, this thread will pick up where life is today, post-election. You know, if Ben Carson is championed as a hero here on MN, I'm going to feel the need to raise some warnings. To me, some of the things that came up during the election raise seriou...

Re: Word of the year: post-truth
I'm guessing that the editors of the Oxford Dictionary are opponents of Brexit and Trump. is it a guess when stated openly, leaving no room for doubt? for me, this was one unusual aspect of this election, the honesty, and confidence, of the bias. even non-political folks could read it, no trickery ...

Re: Bible Study References
Anyone here use "Wuist's word studies in the Greek New Testement". I find it makes language accessible to us who know no Greek. You can see it here: https://books.google.ie/books?id=ZHhK3AKkc9EC&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_atb#v=onepage&q&f=false It has a lot of good ob...

Word of the year: post-truth
http://time.com/4572592/oxford-word-of-the-year-2016-post-truth/ The Oxford English Dictionary chooses a word of the year every year. Here is this year's winner: post-truth : relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals t...

Sermon On the Mount: Matthew 5:1-11
I'd like to kick off an inductive Bible study of the Sermon On the Mount. I'd like to do this with a certain amount of structure, so people can learn how to do inductive Bible study. (If you have your own preferred way and don't want to go along, please start a different thread for that, so we don't...
