Re: How to Overcome Addictions?
I only disagree with you because you confound scripture. It is not reality now and then reality future, never mind my eschatology. I believed this when I was teaching Dispensensational theology. If you read Romans 6 in it's context, you can't escape the implications. As Paul said, it matters to who...

Re: Who "owns" the Conservative Anabaptists?
Please define "Conservative Anabaptist" in the context of your question. [What I think you mean: Members of Swiss Brethren groups that wear "conservative clothing" as an expression of their church standards. (Also known as "Plain People".)] [What you might mean: Member...

Re: How to Overcome Addictions?
I just read this discussion through now. When I read this part of the conversation, I immediately thought of I Timothy 1:15, where Paul says that "The Christ came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the worst," the prime example. He doesn't say "of whom I WAS the worst"...

Re: "gay Christian"
Question: If I took "gay" out of the phrase "gay Christian", does it get easier? How many people object to "a Christian who is gay" as a description of someone who struggles with same-sex attraction, but chooses to be celibate? I would be happy to accept "a Christ...

Re: How to Overcome Addictions?
I read The Cross and the Switchblade in the '60s. One powerful point was people becoming free from addictions by the power of the Holy Spirit. Since the book was written, Wilkerson found out that being baptized in the Holy Spirit did not always free someone from heroin, but God still works through ...

Re: "gay Christian"
I really think we're missing the point. Paul said that he was a sinner, saved by grace. All of us are and we dare not forget it. The old nature is still there, ready to jump to life without a moments notice. Been there, done that. I agree 100%. I believe that Satan loves to fool [us] into thinking ...

Re: "gay Christian"
One reason a Christian might publicly identify as a "gay Christian" might be to help welcome others who identify as homosexual to a Christian group. I have the same doubts as others as whether that personally is a helpful way to look at oneself, but it could be useful in reaching out to o...

Re: The art of critical thinking
My impression is that conservative Christian schools in particular do not teach critical thinking. From what I have observed there is a tendency to teach the students "what to believe" rather than to give them the tools they need to help them determine what they SHOULD believe. Se...

Re: "gay Christian"
I see what your saying, but why would we label someone by their temptation? Why don't we label someone an "Adulterous Christian (celibate)"? You don't have to have any physical union with another person in order for it to be adultery - according to Jesus Christ. So I fail to see how we ca...
