Re: "If you don't vote, you have no right to complain!"
I attended Carter's Sunday School class a couple times after he left office. Struck me as a sincere, thoughtful, moderately conservative Baptist. Intelligent, but no Biblical scholar. When I was with a group that hosted a Habitat for Humanity board meeting, he attended. Maybe our pacifist group comp...

Re: Preterism
Yes the final outcome is up to God. "THE EARTH SHALL LAST FOREVER" image sure isn't conclusive about the earth lasting forever, is it? The Hebrews 1 passage and Isaiah 51 says it shall perish. Ephesians 3.21 (KJV) uses the idiom "world without end", which is not a literal transla...

Re: Christian Fads
OK, I started a new thread, Preterism, under Theology. I'd like to hear more.gcdonner wrote:But perhaps this should all be discussed in another thread, since eschatology itself is not a fad, though some forms of it are.

Preterism
GCDonner suggested another thread. I'd like to hear more of his ideas, so here's a place. Being a Preterist, I see the new age/coming age as already present and that the general resurrection began at the cross initially (remember those that rose and went about Jerusalem after the crucifixion?), but ...

Re: Sermon On the Mount: Matthew 5:1-11
I set up the account and went to the designated page which gives Matthew 5.1-48. Bootstrap, how does one see your questions and annotations? Or add such?

Re: Christian Fads
I see that as the difference between covenants, one of law and one of grace/truth, as John says, "The law came by Moses, but grace and truth through the Lord Jesus Christ." I think the language of covenants is more biblical, but a dispensation to me is mostly synonymous. What age to come?...

Re: Thanksgiving
The "X" in X-mas (still pronounced "Christmas") is a taking into our alphabet the Greek "Chi" which looks like "X", the first letter of "Christ". To me it emphasizes Christ.ken_sylvania wrote: Christmas = X-mas or The Holidays or Yuletide

Re: Gadgets - Home+Garden
Ideally they would be rotating the chemicals used. If the same sprays are used every time, certain weeds may develop resistance to the active ingredients in those sprays. Maybe it's a matter of semantics, but I find it easier to think of selecting the weeds that have the resistance to the herbicide...

Re: "If you don't vote, you have no right to complain!"
Praying against a leader is an interesting question. Think of an extreme example, such a Hitler. I think I could faithfully pray for his conversion, and failing that, that his evil plans be thwarted. Which also needs to be prayed for every US leader in my lifetime. Maybe you aren't as aged as I am,...

I guess you aren't a Dispensen-sationalist? I probably am a dispensationalist in a way. I do think that God dealt and will deal with people differently in different ages, although people get much too detailed. There was the age before the Law, the Law, the Gospel age, and there is the Age to Come. ...
