Re: Pietism

What is the "Amish story" exactly, and how is it similar to the "story" of folks leaving Charity?

Charity Ministries and assorted other topics

Can someone give me a short history on what has happened at Charity Ministries? It seems like it has had a controversial history, with reports of abusive practices, particularly towards Denny Kenaston. I have browsed Charity Ministries Insider, but I have not had an easy time finding a summary of wh...

Re: Bibles without chapters or verses

The church we've been going to uses ESV so we purchased the giant print for my husband- I have to admit it is hard for me as I read the ESV because I will read a passage that I was familiar with in the KJV or NKJV version and I get perplexed why the ESV changes the wording- it seems to give some pa...

Re: Bibles without chapters or verses

Question- from time to time Jesus would quote passages from the OT- and also certain passages the disciples would recall, - I understand what people are saying about proof texting (which I didn't even learn of this until Mennodiscuss) but since the Lord & disciples would bring up certain passag...

Re: Bibles without chapters or verses

I've seen the leather bound single volume and thought it was a brilliant way to encourage regular Bible reading. How does this edition fare? Accurate? The chapter and verse divisions are excellent for academic peer reviews and consistency between translators. For the average non-academic however, I...

Re: Bibles without chapters or verses

Dumb question probably, but do they use paragraphs? They do not do a new paragraph for each verse as is typical in most King James Bibles. Rather, paragraph breaks are inserted to follow the natural structure of the text. Poetry is formatted as poetry, and because it is a single column layout, it a...

Bibles without chapters or verses

I recently received a copy of the ESV Reader's Bible, Six-Volume Set. If you are a fan of the ESV, I can't recommend this more highly. Having all chapter numbers, verse numbers, notes, references, and most section headings removed from the text draws you deep into the text and makes it come alive in...

College

Although our oldest son is only in sixth grade, my wife and I were talking about him attending college and thinking about where he might go one day. It got me wondering if there are any colleges that are more in line with Conservative Anabaptist / Kingdom Christian thinking. I am leery of paying tho...

Re: Childish Ways

This discussion reminds me of a humorous incident that occurred while we were checking the Enga translation of the book of Matthew. I wrote about the incident in a newsletter and will relay it below. ---------- Anyone familiar with the Wicked Bible knows just how devastating a typo can be. The Wicke...
