Re: Modesty

I think we need to to view the plight of both men and women in these times with compassion and kindness and truth. It is not easy to be a man in this era of overt objectification of women. As a society we are bombarded with conflicting messages that make knowing what is supposed to constitute accept...

Re: Modesty

If I am hearing correctly, what you all are taking issue with is that it was not the best idea for him to talk to her about it, but agree that being able to see her arm in her sleeve when she stood with sunlight behind her was a definite problem that she needed to take care of.
Am I understanding?

Re: Modesty

No they are certainly not. But I really do not hear participants here saying they are, or speaking out of that belief. Our salvation puts in our hearts a desire to follow Jesus, and to conduct our lives in a way that reflects love and respect for our fellowman. I will not deny that collectively we h...

Re: Modesty

I really don't want or mean to indict anyone here or anywhere. I just want us to look at ourselves and see whether we're lining up well with Scripture and the heart of God. Ladies and men alike. P. S. And I just saw that my post up there had a whole section repeated. I did something dumbish, somehow...

Re: Modesty

I guess that is why I hesitate to hold forth with any personal opinion as to what might be appropriate. There is an opinion for every "look"...no a dozen opinions, and I think we have collectively fostered an atmosphere where every man feels a freedom, and perhaps even somewhat of an oblig...

Re: Modesty

Re: your question about the T-shirts with a neckline a few inches lower than the neck... The Bible is quite general in its prescription; "modest apparel" is a term that is very open to interpretation (and perhaps you saw what I think is likely meant by the word modest). I am really not wan...

Re: Wedding Ceremonies??

At our weddings there is variation in what people choose, but weddings are usually on a Saturday, the bride has a special white cape dress, sometimes longer than usual, or maybe not, but without a train...the bridesmaids and groomsmen typically wear matching or coordinating clothing... There is a gr...

Re: Modesty

I would disagree with that. I have friends who buy their clothes and are careful to be discreet and appropriately clothed. This is pretty hard to do unless you have a lot of free time to go shopping and are also an expert at shopping for modest clothes. Most people aren't. Having said that, I reali...

I would disagree with that. I have friends who buy their clothes and are careful to be discreet and appropriately clothed. Having said that, I realize both from reading this thread and from real life, some of us have a far more narrow definition of what appropriate dress entails than others of us do...

Re: Modesty

I don't think that is strange, Wade. Cape dresses can be beautiful! I wear cape dresses exclusively, myself. I guess I am just trying to speak to an attitude I sometimes pick up on in some of our plain circles (not necessarily here in this thread) that adding variety to our clothing or choosing styl...
