Re: Pilgrim Conf. vs Northeastern Conf.
What are the actual differences at this point between Pilgrim Mennonite Conference and Northeastern Mennonite Conference, which separated from Pilgrim several years ago? I think mostly administrative, although my feeling is that Northeast is holding a bit of a tighter line regarding non-conformity ...

Re: Can Folks Afford to Join Your Church?
There is a place for individual discernment to read the Bible and understand what is contrary to Christ and also to reach out to ministers and brethren in other churches and ask for their input.

Re: Conservative Anabaptists and Birth Control
Lancaster hasn't had any new Amish settlements in a while, even though many new settlements are happening elsewhere. Holmes County is bigger now and communities in Wisconsin are growing fast too. Eventually, Lancaster might just be another suburb of NYC/Philadelphia/DC. It's sad to think an area wi...

Re: What the Mennonites got wrong
Historically, Mennonites have been a bit too tribal and insular. I disagree. Mennonites (and other traditional Anabtists) are one of the only groups with the strength not to be corrupted by modern culture, and this requires at least some degree of insularity. The only other group that I know that e...

Re: What the Mennonites got wrong
Emphasis on how a person looks is the difficult one for me. If someone plans to be a policeman, at some point, they should have a policeman's uniform on. If I plan to go play soccer then I would expect the other people will have soccer attire on - even if just soccer cleats and otherwise normal clo...

Re: What the Mennonites got wrong
Indeed. Different appearance is a consequence of separating from the world, not the other way around. Along these lines, do you think the headcovering is more of a focus for reasons of headship/ 1 Corinthian text or for Mennonite identity, separation from the world, and other similar reasons. For a...

Re: Dr Ben Carson - Post 2016 Election
Most of the media was far more biased against Trump than Clinton this election. This coincided with public trust in the media being at an all time low."the media" seems a bit broad. Some painted Clinton in a similar light. I wouldn't necessarily equate the votes with a mass-awakening.

Re: Can Folks Afford to Join Your Church?
Submission to a brotherhood. And what if what the brotherhood is asking us to submit to is contrary to Christ? Time to find a new brotherhood. Asking me to drive a black car isn't contrary to Christ, so (whilst it would be difficult) I could theoretically be part of a black car church. Asking me to...
