Re: The cape dress: Its origins and evolution over the ages
Does anyone's church have written standards on maternity dresses? Do they require the cape even then? Yes, Pilgrim requires a cape maternity dress. It's made a little different from the regular cape dress (I'm an NMB male, so I can't say exactly how, mind you  ). Making the cape maternity ...

Re: Free Christian audio books/stories
Wife here, just wondering if people might have links to free Christian audiobooks/audiostories they would care to share. One of the children and my favorites is "Greasy The Robber", which can be found on Timelesstruths.org. https://library.timelesstruths.org/texts/Greasy_the_Robber/ Also,...

Re: Make MennoNet great again!
I haven't worn a plain suit since I was a young person in a conservative Mennonite church. Once ten or fifteen years ago, my mom bought me one at a secondhand store for when I was supposed to be a pallbearer at my Amish grandmother's funeral. I didn't end up with that job, but I still have the suit...

Re: Should a bishop/elder have the ability to reject election results?
I am told of nomination services in Eastern where church members "compared notes" after the list of nominees was read out and discovered there should have been at least one more nominee. The church members (now members of Pilgrim) would say that the lot was being tampered with. This is als...

I also find it interesting that Eastern is so militantly premillenial, but other ultras such as Ohio Wislers and Washington County are not - although I guess the two latter groups are really "half-old order."

Re: Modern day Israel
Interesting. Where do they place the tribulation in relation to the "catching up"? (Ie, are the pre-trib?) Almost invariably pretrib. Is Pilgrim? (The booklet above doesn’t seem to be teaching pretrib rapture. The author is Ebersole.) Pilgrim would generally be the same as Eastern, though...

Re: Predestination & Freewill within Calvinism
This preacher (I didn't catch his name. I had just turned the radio on when he said it. And I turned it back off immediately after he said it.) was talking about those who are predestined by God for destruction, and said "God predestines them to exercise their freewill". That is, God forc...

Re: College/higher education
So, why not send kids to public school, and quit the expense and trouble of running church schools or homeschooling? I would use the same language regarding public schools. I'd be very hesitant to ever send my kids to a secular public school. Not saying I absolutely wouldn't ever...under any condit...

Re: The Mennonite Game?
In my experience it isn't just about last name. Perhaps not even mainly about last name. It's about who you know and who you are related to. And how many degrees of connection you can make to the person you are talking to. "Do you know so, and so?" "Are you related to so and so?"...

Re: Do Anabaptists "own" the women's headcovering?
Historically speaking, headcovering was practiced by most Christian women in most denominations up to about the early 20th century. It became an Anabaptist "distinctive" as others stopped practicing it, so it's sort of an "accidental distinctive." This in contrast to, e.g., adult...
