Re: Quakers and Anabaptists
Quakers don't believe in baptism at all. That would make them the opposite of Anabaptists in a literal sense. Evangelical Friends have moved towards an evangelical understanding of most things, but I wouldn't really consider them Quakers. There is a man in my congregation who had a lot of experienc...

Predicting 10-16 in. of snow here tonight, which would make it the biggest storm of the winter. Yea, for PA. It's snowing and the forsythia are beginning to bloom. School is cancelled for tomorrow. Down another path, I planted 15 Eastern Redbuds on my property 5-6 years ago, and I learned today why...

Thank you for recommending the book. I bought it and have started reading. Re: Proper expectations on unbelievers
Plain people often go barefoot. If we expect others to respect our standards, should we be able to respect theirs as well? Sure. But not sure what you are thinking of. Can you give some examples? I'm interested in examples as well. Also, Josh, are you saying there are no proper expectations for wor...

Re: Proper expectations on unbelievers
No shirt, no shoes, no seeding? Plain people often go barefoot. Interesting how we would have a collective panic attack over someone who is "topless" yet expect to be tolerated being barefoot. Many people who aren't plain think it is a sign of being underdressed to be barefoot in public. ...

Milk skirts would work. What is a milk skirt? Gardening isn't going to be a day at the beach. How does this relate to the above. Your group is ambitious and I wish you a fruitful season. What do you know about us? A skirt worn by woman while milking the cows or doing other dirty work like gardening...

Re: Proper expectations on unbelievers
As a sideline, we are starting a community garden for people we get to know, and we are thinking of having a minimum dress standard to be involved in the community garden. What would you think is reasonable for a plain person to ask of non-plain people? Is it possible that what was reasonable when ...

Do you mean "watch" Fox News?Josh wrote: Not sure what you mean by this. A lot of conservative Mennonites read Fox News and get mixed up in political debates, and get caught up in culture-war controversies they see in the media.

Re: Voting without warring
A good book on how Mennonite beliefs changed in regards to voting and the separation of church and state is "Mennonites, Amish, and the American Civil War" by James O. Lehman. Could you summarize it? Quoting the from the book on page 13, "This books details the story of negotiating n...
