Re: Hymn Share
Recently I came across a choice evening hymn by Gerhard Tersteegen: The evening comes, the sun is sunk and gone, And all things lie in stillness and in rest. And thou my soul, for thee one rest alone Remaineth ever on the Father’s breast. The wanderer now rests each weary limb; Birds to their nests ...

Re: Old Mennonite Student Interviews?
If you could add more, that would be interesting to read. Chester Weaver posted a comment including the following text to Asher Witmer's blog post "When You Want More than Your Mennonite Distinctives" In the providence of God each of us has arrived at this point of time and history, color...

Re: Old Mennonite Student Interviews?
Meanwhile, there are a few folks who are going the opposite direction. They are building values into their lives. They are sharing their values with others, and they are helping others build value into their lives and communities. Indeed. I'm the second generation of my family to be swimming upstre...

Re: Old Mennonite Student Interviews?
Every time I watch this it makes me sad...and I see myself in it. These students must be my age. i feel numb watching. so innocent. so vulnerable. so expectant. It would be fascinating if the different students could view this now, then speak to how they see things today. Not together, as they were...

Re: Standing When an Adult Enters the Room
Same with when 'the judge' enters a courtroom. It's a matter of 'respect'. Is this still the norm in all parts of the USA? If one can make any assumption based on how it is portrayed in films, the bailiff announces the entrance of the judge by saying "All rise", then the name of the judge...

Re: How much of a nerd are you?
I probably qualify as a nerd. Growing up in a rural area back when I did, this was not a popular thing to be. Especially for a boy. I was genuinely surprised when my children started calling me a nerd with a smile on their faces, like it was a good thing. There's been a huge shift in our culture - ...

Re: Alzheimer's, Dementia, and the soul
A year or two ago, I attended the funeral of an elderly woman from my parents' church who died of dementia. At one point, though she was confused about many things, there was one thing she was clear about. She told her caregivers, "I just want to please the Lord."

Re: Easterns/Hope Fellowship/Pilgrim Psychology
I think there are possibly several things contributing to this: 1. I think some of it is "making a difference between the "Two Kingdoms" in their submission priorities. The thinking is that "We should obey God rather than man" I agree this contributes. There is an element o...

Re: In what way/ways is Jesus the Prince of Peace
So far the idea is that Jesus brings internal peace which spills over into individual life expressions of peacefulness. I'm not sure this what the carol writers had in mind. It's interesting to see how interpretation shifts. Can you expand on this? (I'm not disagreeing, just would be interested to ...
