I'm not sure if you are implying something here but Tillerson is the new Secretary of State, not EPA.

Re: Ecclesial Evolution

If Plain Catholics don't exist, let's stop pretending. The cost of avoiding this discussion or pretending, whichever it is, is really high for MN. We can always feel the tension of avoiding this discussion, and it never goes away. It keeps coming out in sarcasm or people who choose to pointedly shu...

Re: A Mennonite view of divorce and remarriage

Adultery is always adultery against your spouse, marital unfaithfulness . Luke 16:18 NKJV 18 "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced from her husband commits adultery. Who is the adultery against in this verse? Isn't it against o...

Re: A Mennonite view of divorce and remarriage

I'm not so focused on the sexual part. Adultery, whether the relationship is sexual or not, implies being in a relationship with someone who is not your spouse. It's the "not your spouse" part I'm focused on. Why did Jesus say it's adultery? Because the original spouse is still in the equ...

Re: A Mennonite view of divorce and remarriage

In the Bible, adultery is used very frequently as an analogy for breaking our covenant with God. Is this the Greek meaning of adultery as used in the verses we are discussing? Very likely. And I think context is as important as Greek here, but in both Greek and English, adultery is used both ways. ...

Re: A Mennonite view of divorce and remarriage

Breaking the marriage. And certainly marrying someone else breaks your first marriage. Where do you find this definition for adultery? Re: A Mennonite view of divorce and remarriage

I'm trying to understand how sex while still married is grounds for divorce, but marrying someone else without grounds is not, since Jesus calls that adultery. I'm not sure I understand. When you say "marrying someone else without grounds is not..." are you referring to grounds for divorce?
