Re: 'anabaptist' Attitude Toward Adoption
75% is way too high. From the MN Dept of Health: Epidemiologic studies in the US estimate an overall incidence of 1 in 500 live births, occurring in 2-6 births per 1000 Caucasians, 6 per 1000 African-Americans, and up to 20 per 1000 American Indians. I'm curious about what your explanation would be...

Re: 'anabaptist' Attitude Toward Adoption
I've seen/heard numerous places that ~75% of children who've been adopted or in foster care have an FASD. Most places consider that a conservative number due to many mothers not willing to admit that they drank while pregnant, or information not being available. Symptoms of FASD include: Low body we...

Call me a girly-man, but as a pre-teen, I read those book several times over. I think I had the entire TV show on DVD, but many are in rough shape. That's a lifestyle we'll never see again, although I wish we could sometimes. I don't think there's anything really girly about reading the books. Yeah...

Re: COVID-19: Silver Linings?
There's a young teenage boy my brother has been mentoring who, in my brother's words, "If you tell him it's a rebellious thing to do, he'll do it." The boy's father called my bro a week or so after the schools shut down and told him that the separation from his friends has been really good...

Re: In an attempt to brighten things up....
When I was 7, I read a scary book and couldn't sleep that night. As I sat on my mom's lap, she asked me to quote the verses I was currently learning in school from Psalm 121. As I started to say them, I felt peace and comfort thinking about my Help. These verses have been my favorite ever since, and...

Re: What is your church doing for services during the COVID-19 outbreak?
My husband and I regularly attend to churches. One of them is a smaller, non-denom church and immediately set up zoom and we're back to regularly scheduled programming. The only thing we're not able to do is the regular singing time. There is another smaller church with which they often associate fr...

Re: What is your church doing for services during the COVID-19 outbreak?
We do Zoom meetings now. For some reason we do it on Wednesday evenings. Probably to allow people to watch live stream Sunday services from other churches on the Sunday (we don‘t have that). We meet from 7:30 on and have a half hour to chat freely. The official part starts at 8 with worship (no sin...

The big box stores in our area, as of this weekend, are strictly enforcing one shopper per cart, one-way aisles through the store, and a restricted number inside the store. People waiting outside have to form a line while maintaining a 6 foot separation. I'm predicting more difficulty getting suppli...

Re: Pence's discomfort at Trump's statement is palpable
Wow, 10 years ago all of you would be calling for Obama's resignation if he made a joke like this. But suddenly it is ok because it was said by your messiah Trump about his wife, who is possibly a communist plant (her dad was a well-to-do communist party member). Come out of her my people. (I would...
