Re: Churches, Dealerships, and Franchises
I don't know what you are seeing that I am not... The far majority of Plain Anabaptists are in a church that is very similar to their church of 150 years ago, even if it had a different name at one point. There are many things...from straight cuts to teetotaling to no ties to fundamentalist creeds,...

Re: Churches, Dealerships, and Franchises
Vanishingly few people are in the churches their grandparents or great grandparents are in. That applies to basically every plain ordnung out there including Eastern, Pilgrim, Groffdale, Weaverland, etc...none of which existed 140 or so years ago... I don't know what you are seeing that I am not......

Re: Churches, Dealerships, and Franchises
I am not convinced that the movement in Anabaptist churches is primarily driven by "what we are allowed to do." That is a factor...however their are larger sociological and ecclesiological issues at play I think that are sector wide in the western/protestant churches that have folks lacki...

Re: Churches, Dealerships, and Franchises
Such folks will need to find a church with the parameters they like. At any given time, there are probably 100,000 Anabaptists who are hoping to be part of a church someday that has the parameters they like. I am not convinced that the movement in Anabaptist churches is primarily driven by "wh...

Re: Churches, Dealerships, and Franchises
Lancaster Conference comes to mind... Are you thinking of the difference between the Martindale District and the rest of LMC? That seems to be all that's left of anything resembling what Ernie is talking about and I'm not sure how much longer that can last. I was thinking though of the slightly bro...

Re: Poll: Who will win 2024 Presidency?
I think Biden will win. I think Trump is the only person he could beat. Also the economy has been chugging along...in spite of inflation and high interest rates.

Re: Churches, Dealerships, and Franchises
I believe they already were in existence but got a boost from a ready constituency. Maybe a BMA person can correct my history. If I remember, KMF folks turns their noses up at BMA, for various reasons. But they were close with Mid-Atlantic, though. According to the late Clayton Shenk, KMF was consi...

Re: Churches, Dealerships, and Franchises
I don’t think it’s official written policy but overall they are trying to back away from “acquiring” dissatisfied congregations which are trying to transition more worldly. (They’d gladly take a CMC congregation that doesn’t want to trend more worldly tho, like the Bealeton/Cattlet, VA community) I...

Re: Pilgrim Mennonite Conference current events
I think that is correct. I heard that they decided they didn't want to do the normal thing of a Mennonite conference becoming a humongous, unwieldy organization, that places its own dealerships in every Anabaptist community. I understood they are going to divide regionally. Hats off to them! Inters...

Re: Sattler College Turmoil
Arguing against S&T for “reformed” and “Protestant” influence is equivalent to arguing against FotW for “Stone-Campbell” influence. The allegation might be true, but I don’t like how it’s some kind of automatic trump card, and if it is, we should be able to immediately write off a group that ap...
