Re: Easter ham or Passover lamb?

Jesus wants us to do a lot of things. But he never taught us to regard certain days as special... What about the example of Jesus? I suspect he never taught these things since they were forgone conclusions amongst the Jews, of whom he was one. He observed all the Feasts of the LORD, while at the sa...

Re: Easter ham or Passover lamb?

I wonder how Jesus feels about his followers discussing the righteousness of not eating ham when he declared all foods clean. I wonder how he feels as the Lamb of God being celebrated by eating a pig, which for him would have been a big slap in the face. I seem to remember that he cast demons into ...

Re: Easter ham or Passover lamb?

"I guess the next question would be, who assimilated what." - is absolutely to the point. Just brilliant. Dear George, Will you tell us the following things: 1. What was the the first religion that used the word "Easter"? 2. Who instituted the the first religious service of eati...

Re: Easter ham or Passover lamb?

We eat ham and other ritually unclean animals throughout the year. We do not consider Easter a time when we should eat different food than any other time of the year. Generally when we have large gatherings, pork, chicken, and beef are eaten, and sometimes other meats like venison. My reference to ...

Re: What was Paul's "thorn in the flesh"?

What are the implications of the following passage? Num 33:55  But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides , and shall vex you in the land wherein ...

Re: Easter ham or Passover lamb?

Could I ask what is "pagan" about how we conservative Mennonites observe Easter is? Our biggest tradition is Easter baptisms... if that's pagan, I'm a heathen... The term "Easter" is pagan to begin with. I don't know what other practices your particular church follows. Do you ha...

Re: What was Paul's "thorn in the flesh"?

2Co_12:7  And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. What was Paul referring to when he spoke of his "thorn in the flesh"? Was...

Re: Easter ham or Passover lamb?

SR: your post reminded me of a church history lesson in my religious ed class 68 years ago (which almost qualifies it as ancient history itself  ). We were taught that after the fall of the Roman Empire, Christianity spread to pagan societies by the Christian missionaries. One of those societi...
