Re: Preparation for Baptism
OGBC? " O ld G erman B aptist C hurch" - as with most break-offs, in their desire to be "more original" than all the rest of us they see as drifting into worldliness in some area or another, so they reverted back to an early group name (before Brethren was formally added). Thank...

Re: Preparation for Baptism
I know of four or five vocal proponents among the main OGBB groups (Old Conference, New Conference, and the ultra conservative OGBC bunch that pulled out of OC back in 2020), but it's mostly died out among them, is not openly preached, and is rarely openly admitted or promoted by any OGBBs who migh...

Re: Preparation for Baptism
German Baptists might have a belief in baptismal regeneration but in my experience are quite “Anabaptist” in their approach to it, and a sizeable fraction believe in universal salvation anyway. This is interesting! I'm certainly curious to know if you've actually talked to more than perhaps 10 or 1...

Re: Preparation for Baptism
Similar to Steve above, our Brethren groups have typically been a bit more "organic" (for lack of a better word) than most contemporary Anabaptist groups, and we simply encourage folks to attend for awhile before baptism and ask questions, engage the congregation, learn from the preaching ...

Re: Books on Anabaptist History and Theology
The theory that Anabaptism had many origins, and is in fact ancient, tracing perhaps to the apostles. Books like Brodbent's "The Pilgrim Church" and Kennedy's "Torch of the Testimony" give this theory. It is more recent. The other predominant theory is that Anabaptism if of Zuri...

Re: (Part 2) Spring 2024: Tell us about your church!
Hey! Unlike Part 1, I can check more than one box on this one, lol! We bought a building with a stage inside and a steeple attached, but we've removed the steeple and the stage is coming out during our remodel/expansion over the next year... Our windows get enough streaks from the children without n...

Re: Baptismal Formula
What is amazing to me is how scriptures are used (more specifically the one I pointed to in John 19:30) when determining a 'mode'. It doesn't surprise me that scriptures are used but rather which scriptures are used and how . I can say the same about the scriptures used to support Calvinism and non...
