Re: Church Government Models

The Quaker method of governance by consensus doesn't really fit into any of your above categories. It is not direct democracy. Consensus is something different. I suspect churches truly move forward only by consensus regardless of the governance model. There must be a common vision and those who di...

Re: Is it wrong to use nuclear bombs against civilians?

This is a thread to discuss the ethics and morality of building and using such bombs. I am not sure why we single out the ethics of using nuclear bombs as opposed to all types of bombs and all other deadly force, but yes, the use of nuclear weapons is, like all other deadly force, wrong and opposed...

Re: Distinguishing Mountains from Molehills

Those I believe we should turn the other cheek when they persecute us. But at the point of them killing me, which I have not experienced just only by their words, I suspect I would defend myself and am quite sure I would defend others around me from being killed also. I would try not, in this defen...

Re: Pilgrim Mennonite Conference current events

As an aside, I find it really annoying how plain people refer to a “Junior” as if we’re all supposed to know who that is. I have literally been asked, “Do you know Junior?” Junior who? I provably know 50 “Juniors”. Be glad you're not Amish and trying to figure out who Butter Davie's John's Sam Amos...

Re: Distinguishing Mountains from Molehills

If I understand you correctly, your and my understanding of who is our neighbour is quite different. Those who killed for what they deemed to be a greater cause in war was not killing their neighbour, imo. Those verses you used I would not apply them to all people in wars as many have no real hatre...

Re: Political office

So delivering the mail is now tantamount to dropping the atomic bomb? Not at all. Maybe re-read my post, I suggested nothing of the sort. I was simply referring to your implied argument / line of thought in your response to KenSylvania. Nothing more. Consequently it is up to the public (through the...

Re: Political office

As far as working for the post office - I don't think I could feel that I am pleasing Jesus by delivering porn or other ungodly things into peoples' mailboxes. Or critical medications for shut-ins? Coming into this a bit behind the ball, but Ken, your comments to KenSylvania rings suspiciously like...

B. But as potential leaders, I dislike them equally, just to qualify.
