It's also difficult for those who think it's all about the Greek and treat it like an opportunity to write a thesis ... Of course. Which is why I haven't mentioned Greek in this thread. Most people really are much better off reading a good translation, the translations are good. Context, on the oth...

Re: PJ Media article: 30 years ago, guns were in schools...and nothing happened

The JROTC programs are a major recruiting tool for the military, and the coolness factor of being able to shoot guns has always been a big draw. You are not only kidding, mostly for enlisted men. They promise kids the moon, and hand them enlistment contracts that nullify all of their promises. My d...

1. We don't let the Bible speak for itself. Yes, I think it's crucial to let the Bible speak for itself, and especially to read entire books over and over so we aren't cherry picking. I think it's also helpful to notice questions you have, write them down, and see if the answer becomes clear as you...

Re: How to/How to not

“He opened their minds” .. is crucial. i don’t believe the Bible can be studied in the same way new languages, computer codes, or, how-to manuals, are studied. our minds must first be opened (by Jesus, or the Holy Spirit.) our ability to understand and accept God’s Word is not entirely our decision...

Re: Building Yourself Up in Your Most Holy Faith

A few thoughts on Valerie's questions in the OP ... ⋅  I find I need songs and prayers to put everything in God's hands and let him take care of them. If I wake up in the middle of the night feeling anxious, I need to know what to do to orient myself to God and let it go. ⋅  Pray...

Re: Building Yourself Up in Your Most Holy Faith

You should be watching Fox news not CNN (Clinton News Network)... Seriously, almost all television news uses sensationalism and emotional manipulation to get your attention, and the world they create is often scarier and more depressing than real life. I don't think Fox and CNN are terribly ...

I agree, Sudsy. It's not just the guns, it's also the whole culture of fear and hostility and the whole obsession with guns, which play a central role in a huge percent of our movies and television shows and games.

Re: Swim lessons, gun safety instructions ..

this year, i’m thinking, one improvement might result by offering gun safety instruction to children, as young as possible. in the same way swim classes are offered. GUNS EXIST. just as open bodies of water exist. the best way to prevent drownings is to teach swimming, and water safety. Swim lesson...
