Re: Is Trump legally qualified to be a presidential candidate?

For reelection, I think this clause is also relevant: No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congr...

Re: Is Trump legally qualified to be a presidential candidate?

The separation of powers is that the judiciary (particularly low level state or federal judges) are not in charge of the President, no matter how much they might want to be. The President is accountable to the voters for reelection and Congress for impeachment and the Senate for conviction. I don't...

Re: Paul Graham - How to Disagree

Let's think about the next level from a biblical perspective: DH1. Ad Hominem. An ad hominem attack is not quite as weak as mere name-calling. It might actually carry some weight. For example, if a senator wrote an article saying senators' salaries should be increased, one could respond: Of course h...

Re: Paul Graham - How to Disagree

Basically, I’m a lot more interested in how the Bible tells us to seek and find truth than how Paul Graham tells us to. We can evaluate this essay in light of the Bible's teaching. Let's start here: But I say to you that everyone who is angry at his brother will be subject to judgment, and whoever ...

I can't tell what you are agreeing with me or disagreeing with me about. Are you responding to something in what I posted? If so, what? Could you take something specific I said, agree with it or disagree with it, and perhaps explain why?

Yup. https://courses.washington.edu/hist112/SCHLEITHEIM%20CONFESSION%20OF%20FAITH.htm Sixth. concerning the sword: The sword is ordained of God outside the perfection of Christ. It punishes and puts to death the wicked, and guards and protects the good. Thanks! It's always good to double check GPT ...

Re: Is Trump legally qualified to be a presidential candidate?

Let's ask the Constitution what it says about impeaching a President: Article I, Section 3, Clause 7 Judgment in Cases of impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Par...

Re: Archaeologists need to quit being so quick to…

How did I miss this thread?! :? Check out this article, one that appeared in the American Anthropologist, 1956. (It was assigned reading in my college Cultural Anthropology course, to help guard against the problem you have observed. (Apparently a lot of 'anthropologists' haven't read it.) https://...

Re: Archaeologists need to quit being so quick to…

No. I must be clicking on archeological discovery articles on Yahoo, because it seems to feed me a regular supply of them. Oh, that explains it. In general, I don't think archaeologists are quick to jump to conclusions, though some are. They do come to conclusions I disagree with, but they also dis...

Re: Paul Graham - How to Disagree

Specifically, as Anabaptists, we actually think the substance of who the writer is important, and is a very important part of whether an argument is right or wrong. The idea that you can divorce an idea from the person who created it is not an Anabaptist way of thinking. This is a special case of t...
