Re: The CAM scandal links and assorted other topics thread
to I Timothy i thot when that was posted on april 1, that it was an april fools joke. and as such, i personally didn't find it funny. are you saying that i and many others were wrong, and it is actually truth? I'm saying the silence from CAM is shameful. I'm only illustrating what CAM could have do...

Re: The CAM scandal links and assorted other topics thread
I had posted this on April 1 in its own thread, but it was deleted assuming because of multiple threads on JM. My point was, why is it so hard for CAM to come out and do the right thing? Obviously, CAM has made no statement like the one below . Why not? Why is so hard for CAM to be open and honest w...

Re: Our Anabaptist Culture Post-Corona?
Maybe some good will come out of this? We might learn what is important/essential and what we should not worry over. We could realize that many of the church splits over the past 50 years were useless and that we will work towards reconciliation. Do we really need to split a church over pleated pant...

Re: Why Mennonite Death Rate Was Double Average During 1918 Flu Epidemic
I don't agree with the reason. Other churches socialize at least as much as Mennonites do. Our boys go to a non Mennonite church school. There are always activities, more than most Mennonite activities. They have Saturday breakfast, birthday parties, Wednesday night suppers, basketball games, cross...

Re: Displaying a Cross and other Symbology of Christianty
Aesthetically, churches like to put on display what is most important to them. When you enter a Mennonite church, you see the minister. The minister is front and center and nothing distracts from his prominence. Not the cross, not the liturgy, not the stations of the cross. I go into the Catholic c...

Re: Displaying a Cross and other Symbology of Christianty
If you like early church practice, you’d probably want to compromise on accepting a fish symbol. Christianity was birthed from Jews, who didn't discard all that God used to "represent" including symbology. They serve multiple purposes. Did Jesus ever condemn symbology? Idolatry certainly ...

Re: What does "plain" mean to you?
Perhaps a church with a “prosperity gospel” would suit you better than. There, having expensive cars and houses is actually promoted. Both the prosperity gospel and poverty/plain gospel focus on things, not Jesus. The prosperity gospel looks around and says, "what can I get?" This is wron...

Re: The CAM scandal links and assorted other topics thread
This manner of handing abuse cases seems good to me, except that I would combine #1 and #3. I believe that law enforcement professionals are typically an independent group of trained professionals who are qualified and authorized to deal with an accused person. I'm not sure if I am on board with al...

Re: The CAM scandal links and assorted other topics thread
I think this is a good starting point. Abuse is not an easy subject to deal with, but properly dealing with abuse and abuse allegations does not seem to be nearly as hard as some people try to make it out to be. I do have a question about #2. Do you think that the ministry should be the ones to sol...
