Re: Mennonite Girl ,3, swept over waterfalls,2 years ago, parents now charged
Very dangerous work, one of the team members died right there at that spot, in 2020 , when something went wrong, badly.... “There are no accidents” is a common phrase. Should have someone been prosecuted in 2020 too? I’m sure someone did something wrong. I don’t think it is good to have inflexible ...

Poem: Look Up -by Gary Turk
I have 422 friends, yet I am lonely. I speak to all of them every day, yet none of them really know me. The problem I have sits in the spaces between Looking into their eyes, or at a name on a screen. I took a step back and opened my eyes, I looked around and realised, That this media we call socia...

Re: Mennonite Girl ,3, swept over waterfalls,2 years ago, parents now charged
My only point I am trying to make with respect to THIS case of the child swept over the waterfall is that I don't think the law should treat negligence that kills your own children differently than negligence that kills other children. In both cases a child dies. But the one has a built in natural ...

Is it more acceptable to kill your own child than the child of a stranger? I would suggest no. The tragedy is that the child died. Children are not the possessions or personal property of their parents. They are independently deserving of protection from the law. It should not be more acceptable to...

Re: Should negligent parents be punished by the law?
I’m okay in principle to having laws that punish negligent parents and protect children. But I would idealize them as having a pretty high bar for prosecution. The laws we have currently are prone to at least occasional abuse by over zealous prosecutors and DHS. But on the other hand, I’m not sure i...

Re: Mennonite Girl ,3, swept over waterfalls,2 years ago, parents now charged
It seems they are alleging negligence not malice in this case. Do you think ANY acts of negligence ever merit punishment? How is this materially different from say a case where someone is fiddling on their phone while driving and runs over a child? In our legal system, we usually punish negligence ...
