Re: Progressive/Conservative threshold?
I understand and use the term 'congregationalist' as a type of church governance at the congregation level. That is, there isn't the strong 'ministry group control' that I see in the Swiss Brethren background groups here. I've always thought of congregational church government as there being no org...

Re: War in Gaza
When it comes to Christians in Israel or Gaza, or other war-torn areas, I think the best thing to do is flee the area. The New Testament tells Christians similar things in various hostile situations. There are political situations where it just doesn't work to try and live out your faith as a Christ...

Re: War in Gaza
I don’t hate Netanyahu. I do think he is a warmonger who has done much to hurt the cause of peace. And my opinion on that is almost entirely based on things (Jewish) Israelis have told me. I have heard it said that even the leftwing elements of the Israeli government, as well as the majority of pub...

Re: Progressive/Conservative threshold?
If the local church here that is considering ADC is typical, my guess is that ADC is probably already more liberal than BMA and is headed further in that direction, and that BMA is more stable in theology and practice.

Re: Progressive/Conservative threshold?
That makes sense. The old Charity-style church in our area is supposedly considering joining up with them.ohio jones wrote: ↑Fri May 24, 2024 8:45 amMany of the congregations, not all, were formerly Beachy.

Re: Progressive/Conservative threshold?
Let's try tot to induce a heart attack on the mods 8-) Thanks for thinking of us, I guess, though it seems a bit childish. I'll totes put a cardiologist on speed dial. In this thread , the consensus seemed to be that BMA was the dividing line between "conservatives" and "liberals.&qu...

Re: War in Gaza
I don't believe there is equivalence between Israel and Hamas. The president has been routinely accused of being too hard on Israel in the current conflict, but today he came out strongly against the idea that Israeli leaders are terrorists who should be tried for crimes, something the ICC apparentl...

Re: MennoNet and Genealogy
Poor mike. He's gonna need therapy knowing that 8-) On a serious note, my wife was 7th cousins to her own maternal grandfather. I wouldn't have expected that close of a connection given my lineage is Amish and presumably OJ's is Mennonite. Must have been some crossover at some point? That's a resul...

Re: MennoNet and Genealogy
Mike and I are fourth cousins once removed, fifth cousins once removed, fifth cousins twice removed, and sixth cousins once removed, depending on which branch you look at. Poor mike. He's gonna need therapy knowing that 8-) On a serious note, my wife was 7th cousins to her own maternal grandfather....

I'm getting grey and I am developing a bald spot (my barber tells me it is just "thinning"). Not thinking of going the razor skin head look, but the clippers on either a #2 guard or no guard at all. I'm on the upper end of my mid-40's so I think I'm old enough to make such a decision. I'm...
