Re: Philosophical and Spiritual Happenings of the 1800's

Another one, perhaps bigger than all those mentioned, but somehow ignored until now: Transcendentalism. Transcendentalism's effect can be seen in so much of the New Age, America's Christianity, and the society at-large.. A few things I can think of: -the need to look to self/ experience, not the Bi...

Re: Cultural Variations in the USA

Having lived in northeast Ohio off and on for 29 years, I have always seen people stopping for funeral processions. Is this a Holmes County thing?

Re: President Trump: A MennoNet Poll

We have passport photos and other government mandated photos provided the purpose of having such a photo is not pride / idolatry.

We do not have family photos on the wall, wedding photos, Snapchat, Instagram, selfies, etc.

Re: President Trump: A MennoNet Poll

The idea of evaluating which heathens are “principled” and “respectable” seems like an odd exercise. What is God’s perspective? All men are called to repent and obey the gospel. There is no “respectable” alternative path. Ultimately I don’t find the actions of the past few presidents particularly in...

Re: In Courts of Human Law

It sure does, and for the simple reason that Trump appointed Gorsuch. Otherwise we’d see more wonderful things like legalised abortion and same sex marriage forced on all 50 states.

Re: horrible earthly things

Of particular note is the Trump used to be pro abortion (back when he was a notorious playboy) but changed his position a decade ago - and not for political reasons.

Re: President Trump: A MennoNet Poll

I’m still having trouble seeing how anyone who promotes abortion (like past Democratic presidents) can be seen as moral or ethical even if they do say polite things and aren’t caught using foul language. Of course, past presidents were no different than Trump. LBJ was exceedingly foul and JFK was a ...
