Re: Churches, Dealerships, and Franchises
Anyone who is a part of, or preferably a member of a conservative anabaptist church has indescribable social capital. I have seen it when things go wrong, as well as when things go right. My attitude is that the social capital is obvious and I'm not going to spend time convincing people who already...

Re: Churches, Dealerships, and Franchises
Quite an interesting read, this thread. Now for a little shot at 'conservative Christians'. The 'holier-than-thou' group. ;) It often sounds to me like the most godly, most spiritual, most holy 'culture' in how to follow Jesus is the one today labelled in Anabaptism as 'Conservative'. This sounds q...

Re: They call it a NEV -- a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle
Note that things like golf carts typically cost more than an old used vehicle. I can get a minivan for under $1,000, good luck getting a golf cart that still runs for that. (If you do find one the batteries are probably completely shot and replacing them is expensive.)

Re: Outlawing homelessness: City of Grants Pass v. Johnson
Incidentally, the "nowhere to go" means people who aren't welcome at homeless shelters because they keep smoking, drinking, starting fights, shooting up drugs or dealing drugs. I do not think people who do the above such things have a sovereign right to turn public property into their own ...

I think they did find a magic formula: be founded and funded by a billionaire.I remain unconvinced that Sattler has discovered the magic financial formula that makes them different from everyone else.

Re: Where are the Anabaptists in the UK?
In my own family lineage, we descend from a line of Quaker preachers, who migrated to PA in the 1700s, who in turn descended from a lady who was married twice, once in Germany and then in England. Her other marriage was to the ancestors of the Anabaptist family known as the Overholts, who also migr...

Re: Poll: Auto Accident Fatalities and Injuries
Maybe the problem here isn't the phone but the car. If he was reading sports scores on his phone while riding an Amish buggy I doubt he would have accidentally swerved into the oncoming lane and caused a crash. The difference there is he would have died rather then killed. Still breaking the law. I...

Re: Distinguishing Mountains from Molehills
This is a spinoff from this other post . How do we distinguish more important doctrines and practices from less important ones? In my opinion, here are some categories. (1) essential doctrines or dogmas (the Incarnation, the Trinity, the Resurrection of Christ, the Return of Christ, God being Creat...

Professor Ken, Are you sure you need to conduct your 1L required courses right now in this thread? The people you are speaking with may already be educated and understand things like "intent" and "negligence", in particularl oj, who has to think about this concepts as part of his...

Re: The Danger of Reactionary Theology
Holdemanns excommunicate everyone who leaves their church. I wasn't aware that the Holdemans do this. More accurately, Holdemans don't believe that one can leave God's church without also leaving God, too. Since they don't view the church as "our church", but rather God's church, they don...
