Re: Sattler College Turmoil

Which position does FotW hold? “Baptism is required for salvation”. vs “It is possible for someone to be saved before they are baptised.” See, in my denomination, the criteria for salvation isn’t unclear or ambiguous. Belief in Jesus’ offer of free salvstiin, and then a desire to accept that free gi...

Some of the material in his Wikipedia is content that I wrote. He’s not paying me for it. Why should he be supported for what he did but not me? I licenced it freely, but expected anyone who copied what I wrote to comply with the licence terms, which is to not prohibit someone else from copying it. ...

Re: 2/3 of Roman Catholic Churches in Baltimore to close

Perhaps the reality is that the people with ethnic and religious affiliation moved - probably to escape Baltimore’s ridiculous levels of crime. When I lived in Baltimore, it was the reverse. The neighborhood I lived in was gentrifying and pushing out the locals. The so-called "Baltimore Renais...

Yes, that's him. I'd say he has done a tremendous amount of work, pouring through basically all of the articles that might contain photos, diagrams, or text info that a conservative parent would not want to have available to a child. (It is, of course, a parent's rightful place to be able to do thi...

And that can be provided by high-tech Anabaptists, right?
More specifically, high-tech ethnic Anabaptists who have an ethnic last name and originally came from a low-tech group.

Re: The Danger of Reactionary Theology

Pelagius overreacted to moral corruption in the 5th century church. Born in Britain, he took his faith seriously, lived an ascetic life like many others around him, and became a monk. Then he went to Rome for further study, and was shocked by the lack of morality in the church there. His concerns w...

Re: Sattler College Turmoil

The obvious question is that if baptism isn’t required for salvation… then what on earth is “baptismal degeneration”? Do you get saved a second time? Are all your sins committed between when you were regenerated by being born again and believing, and baptism, washed away?

Re: Russia Invades Ukraine 2022

Tide turned a long time ago, but they haven’t lost yet. I don’t expect Ukraine to hold out without boots on the ground from Allies. I think if NATO ends up in the Ukraine, then it's no longer a regional conflict and we might be looking at World War III. I don't think anyone has the appetite for tha...

Re: Preparation for Baptism

German Baptists might have a belief in baptismal regeneration but in my experience are quite “Anabaptist” in their approach to it, and a sizeable fraction believe in universal salvation anyway. This is interesting! I'm certainly curious to know if you've actually talked to more than perhaps 10 or 1...
