Re: Paul Graham - How to Disagree
MennoNet indeed does look that way if one simply ignores the Politics group, which is, well, where political discussion happens. A forum full of conservative Anabaptists is not a good place to go to find (a) denouncements of your political enemies, and (b) endorsements of your political allies. It d...

Re: Morals & ethics behind supporting certain mission efforts?
As far as I know, one of the things they are trying to do in Kensington is provide services for people who aren't drug addicts or criminals, but are just poor people who are stuck living there, who face a rather hard life. I think that's a good approach to take. Most of these people can't speak Engl...

Re: Is Trump legally qualified to be a presidential candidate?
As Trump was engaged in insurrection, it behooves Congress to act. I think they should have made that finding after the January 6 impeachment, when a majority of both Houses essentially agreed with that finding. The legal standard is ⅔ of the Senate, which wasn't reached. Congress did act, but Trum...

OK. So I can't kill my neighbour, but it's OK to kill someone who isn't my neighbour?

Re: Morals & ethics behind supporting certain mission efforts?
Kensington is indeed pretty horrible, although there are some (liberal) Mennonite groups trying to engage in church planting and other social services efforts there, like an Everence branch, in partnership with the community clinic there that opened as a sort of "public space" (except priv...

Re: Distinguishing Mountains from Molehills
An excellent exposition of the Lutheran-Evangelical approach to Jesus' commandments can be seen in this thread: #1. An Anabaptist, etc. person says "I think Jesus taught us not to kill people." #2. The Lutheran-Evangelical reports for duty and says "Well, Jesus also said not to hate p...

Re: Paul Graham - How to Disagree
Boot, Do you think "facts" and arguments can exist in a disconnected fashion? I think that arguments about facts usually come from motives of someone who actually has some other agenda. I think it's good to have everyone's motives laid out on the table and say why they are really arguing f...

Re: Is Trump legally qualified to be a presidential candidate?
That is obviously what the trials are for and why we need to hold them. Or do you think that Trump is uniquely above the law? If these “felonies” were so serious perhaps they should have been prosecuted before 2016. So like the movie Minority Report. Use a time machine to see into the future and th...
