Re: Occupations that are uniquely objectionable to Conservative Anabaptists

Professional or amateur sports? No plain Anabaptist would be OK with being a professional athlete. Most conservative Anabaptists wouldn't be OK with amateur sports like playing in college or the Olympics. Most (but not quite as many) conservative Anabaptists wouldn't be ok with organised sports at ...

Re: God Bless the USA" Bibles

To many, many Americans this is now what Evangelical means. It is deeply at odds with what the Bible says, no matter how much they love the Bible as a symbol. I think that's the kind of thing that Christians really should discuss. Well, some of us aren't evangelical, but also try to temper our word...

Re: Political office

I'm not sure why you are obsessed with porn in the mail since practically no one consumes porn that way anymore. I'm not. Someone else brought it up. It is simply an example of something Jesus and his followers wouldn't do. But fine, let's use your porn example. Say you have dinner and tip your wai...

Yet that's not what he's being charged with. He's being charged with "falsifying business records" under an arcane statute.

I'm not obsessed with Trump or news about him and thus don't go digging up every example of some MAGA thing I can find. (What's wrong with the idea of making America great, anyway? Should we make America terrible?)

Re: God Bless the USA" Bibles

In my church, we even talk about why we don't fly American flags or say the Pledge of Allegiance. This Bible seems like another example of where I don't think Christians should go. I'm surprised you put so much energy into defending this by deflection. Would you do that if we were discussing church...

Re: Political office

That is ridiculous and is quite different. However, if I found that someone wanted me to take them to such a place, I would probably decline to drive them there. I don't support men going to things like brothels, strip clubs, and so on and would not want to play any part in the exploitation of wome...

Re: They call it a NEV -- a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle

When I say "Beachy" I mean the mainstream Beachy constituency, which as a rule becomes more worldly over time until it is indistinguishable from non-plain churches. I could also pick on the CMC for this, except their transition to non-plainness is almost complete. The transition with the O...

Re: Poll: Auto Accident Fatalities and Injuries

San Francisco is a wealthy area but I stay as far away from bart / muni etc as I can. I like taking public transportation in lawful areas. I avoid it in lawless areas. Wealthy areas often (but not always) are better about enforcing the law, but some of the wealthiest areas, like SF and LA, are desce...

Re: Political office

So by the same token I assume you also believe that a Christian cannot work for a cable TV or internet company I certainly wouldn't install television to people's houses. TV is full of bad things and has been a very bad influence on society and has little to no potential for good. Internet at least...
