Re: Poll: Auto Accident Fatalities and Injuries

Vancouver isn't a particularly wealthy area. But the transit system is better managed and enforced than many in other cities. And the US is richer than most European countries so it more a question of priorities than wealth. Mostly it sounds like you just don't like being around poor people. Which ...

Re: Poll: Auto Accident Fatalities and Injuries

You drive on the public roads with people who are high on fentanyl, weed, and alcohol You drive on the public roads with people who are crazy and prone to road rage, many of whom are armed They aren’t in the car with me. So I don’t have to deal with them. A 2,000 lb box is a good fortress that seem...

Re: Photography Sinful ?

My understanding of a “graven image” is a representation of a god which is worshipped. That's nice that that's your understanding. A lot of plain Anabaptists prefer to stick to simple readings of the text. I believe there are many 'convictions' throughout church history that were not Holy Spirit di...

Re: Poll: Auto Accident Fatalities and Injuries

I'd like to be able to use public transportation, but without these "features": - Somebody openly smoking crack, fentanyl, weed, or whatever it is people are into these days - People screaming and yelling at each other - People making threatening moves and grunting "What you looking a...

Re: Occupations that are uniquely objectionable to Conservative Anabaptists

Yes, in retrospect, I would have much rather have taken the "free" money (at the time, it was being described as a loan), and distributed a bonus to hard workers. I was also working for an employer at the time and the CEO told me that somehow we'd bagged $1.3 million in government aid. Thi...

Re: Photography Sinful ?

We just interpret the text simply when it says “make no graven images”. Exceptions abound for “business use”, which I personally find questionable. I am more concerned about the graven images of Washington, Jackson, Franklin, et al , which many people worship for both business and personal use. It'...

Re: Occupations that are uniquely objectionable to Conservative Anabaptists

I didn’t sign up for PPP because of that exact language. In retrospect, I left a lot of money on the table… and I agree with ks here, anyone who took PPP funds had better not ever complain about much cheaper forms of welfare for poor people. PPP handouts were often in the millions, paid directly to ...

Re: Political office

I don’t see a problem at all with refusing to deliver pornography to people’s houses. I am also baffled why delivering prescriptions to people in very remote rural areas requires also delivering pornography to people’s houses. The two don’t seem connected at all. And yes, the post office can and doe...

Ultimately, plain groups used to be strong in their convictions against the camera and the photograph - nowadays it is simply most Amish and some other ...

Re: Churches, Dealerships, and Franchises

Barring something like a history of divorce, why can't one adapt? It is largely a matter of the will. Main issues I have seen are TV, clothes, what you do in your social life, and (Gasp) wedding rings. I see the bigger issue is jealousy… Mennonites have a great social/community but it’s basically b...
