Re: Evolution

Dan, Josh, Wayne, whoever- In Judges 1:4 it says that Judah slew ten thousand men in Bezek. There are people who would believe that exactly 10,000 men were killed, not 10,001 or 9,999. But most people I presume read this as a round number and do not make it a litmus test of ones Christianity. Maybe...

Re: Personal convictions?

To the best of my knowledge, all women in the Gospel Hall veil for worship services. Veiling for women in Bible Chapels varies considerably. In some assemblies, most women veil while in others, there are just a very few older ones that do. A couple that left the Gospel Hall and went to a Bible Chap...

Re: Evolution

One of my complaints with creation “science” is they try to make a case for non-miraculous creation. I would say the"Anabaptist Forum" group are not making a case for non-miraculous creation, but they seem to arguing for a scientific explanation to prove the miracle of God's creation, one...

Re: How did government get involved in charity?

An assumption here is that money is what poor people need and what will make their lives better.

Considering the Bible says the love of money is the root of all evil, perhaps other forms of assistance are called for. Where does this idea come from that money is the answer to everything?

Re: Trump Budget Swaps Food Stamps for '100 Percent American' Food

Perhaps private charity could rise to they level if it (a) didn’t have to compete with free cash from the government, and (b) private citizens had more resources to spend on charity since the government wasn’t taking it from them in the first place. You’ll have to pick a side, Boot. Either the gover...

Re: Trump Budget Swaps Food Stamps for '100 Percent American' Food

There are a lot of scenarios now where one earns a negative return from each additional dollar earned. Since we all seem to agree here the government does a terrible job of everything, why don’t we get the government out of the food business altogether? If people can’t afford food, let the local com...

Re: Are We Saved By Our Acts Of Obedience?

I think obedience is required.

If I think I am a believer, yet I go and shoot someone in cold blood every day, I don’t see how any serious person can think I am “saved” or “following Jesus” or in his kingdom.

Re: Evolution

I fail to see how belief of a particular age of the universe has any bearing whatsoever on accepting and understanding the good news.

It does affect whether or not you are a fundamentalist, but fundamentalism is not required to accept the good news - indeed, I would argue it’s an impediment to it.
