Re: Autocrat vs Institutionalist
Last I checked, Trump hasn’t been in power for 4 years and isn’t in charge of much of anything, other than some golf courses. The institutions to control immigration have existed for a while. The point is, those institutions have been basically disabled, because an authoritarian approach has appeare...

Re: Proselytization
The law and the prophets were quite clear - Jesus’ message to the Pharisees was that they weren’t actually obeying what the OT taught. Jesus was calling them to repentance and to actual obedience to the law, instead of doing lip service like turning mint and cumin yet also plundering widow’s houses.

Re: Autocrat vs Institutionalist
I disagree. A big part of Trump's appeal to his base is his autocratic tendences. That he will round up millions of immigrants and detain/deport them. That he will crack down on protests on college campuses and crime in the cities. And that he will advantage evangelical Christians and business cons...

Re: Autocrat vs Institutionalist
I’d agree with US’s perspective. We’re not supposed to be a “one size fits all” nation. Some states and cities can choose to be authoritarian (the corrupt cities like Chicago come to mind), others institutionalist, and yet others can choose a third way. Where I live, people mostly self govern, and s...

Re: Autocrat vs Institutionalist
Ken, I’m speaking of the present, not 200 years ago. Democrats frequently talk about how terrible the electoral college. America wouldn’t exist without the electoral college because smaller states (most of which weren’t slave states) wouldn’t have joined the Union. They wanted representation instead...

Re: Autocrat vs Institutionalist
Claiming the electoral college is “undemocratic” is obviously partisan. That’s why I say it’s actually a Democratic position.

Re: Proselytization
Overall, we just don’t view ourselves obligated to obey the entire OT law, but it is obvious some things are things Christians must do: thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not bear false witness, etc.
Commandments in the NT do seem to be obligations. Otherwise why would they be there at all?

Re: Proselytization
What I really don’t see at all is that Jesus taught us not to obey the teachings in the NT books.
