Re: "Give to whomever asks you": voluntary speeding fines
I think it’s a good idea to pay these. Especially if the amount they are asking for isn’t egregiously out of sync with the crime. For example, if they asked for ten thousand dollars, and you don’t have it, it is in no way whatsoever bad to just ignore the request. It piqued my interest, particularl...

Re: MennoNet and Genealogy
Russian Mennonites (or people married to one) tend to like to store their info in "Grandma Online". This is a site that is specifically about people from Dutch Mennonite heritage. So also the Mennonite History and Genealogy FaceBook group, of which I am a member. I'm sure I have a number ...

Re: Modern day Anabaptist perception towards postcards, handwritten letters, snail mail, etc?
"Stamp it up" was some MLM that used to be popular but doesn't seem to be catching on with the younger generation. When people want fancy wedding invitations now they pay to get it done online, it seems. I see more and more young Amish women creating all of their own invitations, name car...

Re: Should negligent parents be punished by the law?
It is not hard at all for me to admit that single parent families are less than ideal. And that likewise, teen pregnancies are a bad thing as is sex between children (or between children and adults). And I happy support a wide variety of policies that would tend to reduce all of those things. Becau...

To use an obvious example, the typical Beachy person doesn't think the Amish are more holy than they are.
They also don't necessarily look down on a BMA person as "less holy", and in fact seem comfortable freely socialising with them.

Re: Should negligent parents be punished by the law?
So you believe it is the specific circumstances of conception that happened years earlier that uniquely harms children and not the fact that they are being raised in single parent families? I didn't say that, either. What I said was that choosing to conceive a child out of wedlock is a very selfish...

Re: Should negligent parents be punished by the law?
Everything I have suggested are ways to: (1) promote marriage, and (2) reduce the number of single parent families. That's nice. But the topic is if choosing to create children out of wedlock should be punished by the law. The topic is not "every idea under the son of how to help families and ...

Re: Should negligent parents be punished by the law?
Rather, the question is "should negligent parents be punished by the LAW". Which can only be answered if one defines what specific acts of "negligence" will be criminalized I did: One of the worst acts of negligence any parent can do is decide to have a child out of wedlock That...

"Give to whomever asks you": voluntary speeding fines
A discussion came up after church a few weeks ago. In our area, there is a city which is notorious for running speed cameras where, due to that city's lack of desire to comply with state law, they cannot send actual speeding citations based on that speed camera. So they instead send letters asking f...

Re: Should negligent parents be punished by the law?
Ken, it's possible to say that something is evil, bad, or negligent without me proposing model legislation and a regulatory regime. It seems to me that almost every conversation I have with you about a moral issue devolves into you wanting to talk about government policy. I don't think government p...
