Re: The Danger of Reactionary Theology
Menno even excommunicated the Swiss Brethren for not accepting his strict views on excommunication. When was this? 1559 I believe, as a result of the Strasbourg conference of 1557. See here under (3): https://gameo.org/index.php?title=Strasbourg_Conferences Peter Hoover wrote about it in The Secret...

Re: Poll: Changing Churches / Belief Systems
Not sure where I fit here, if at all. I am a member of a congregation that has a quite different history, but I am, for the most part, unchanged in my own beliefs - they are still predominantly identical to my own background. (There are no congregations of my "faith tradition" within hund...

Re: Switching denominations
If the reasons for the change are cultural or socio-economic, a major factor might simply be the question of what is the dominant denomination in a person's area. In the MB congregation I grew up in, there were lots of former Southern Baptists, and some of them switched back to Baptist in later year...

Re: Governance Differences between Mennonite Brethren and Swiss Brethren?
Neto brought up intriguing information in another thread: I am interested in a listing of the differences between these two heritages. Is there more information on this topic? Max, I missed this question until right now, when I accidentally clicked on "Unanswered Topics" instead of "...

Re: Governance Differences between Mennonite Brethren and Swiss Brethren?
Neto brought up intriguing information in another thread: Another major difference is that the church governance in at least the MB conference is markedly different than that of any Swiss Brethren background congregation to which I have been exposed (admittedly, almost entirely Beach Amish-Mennonit...

Re: Worldbook Encyclopedia Censorship Topics
Thanks for the replies. I am aware of the filtered wikipedia file. I guess I'm old school enough that I'd rather see my children sitting on a chair with a book instead of looking at a screen. Maybe censorship wasn't the best word to use in an unqualified sense. I'm not too concerned about reading a...

Re: Which evangelisation method is most effective?
Just being a friend, and loosing the inhibitions we all have to some degree, about talking freely about Jesus. I don't mean "witnessing" in the sense of telling someone the Gospel using a prepared method, but just speaking openly. I'm trying to use the lesson I learned from my Dad as he mo...

Re: Worldbook Encyclopedia Censorship Topics
He isn't charging for the content, only for the filtration process. The content itself is still technically distributed freely. Essentially (as I understand it) his customers are paying for the EXCLUSION of content, not for that which is included. But I guess you could take it up with him directly,...

Re: Worldbook Encyclopedia Censorship Topics
Some of the material in his Wikipedia is content that I wrote. He’s not paying me for it. Why should he be supported for what he did but not me? I licenced it freely, but expected anyone who copied what I wrote to comply with the licence terms, which is to not prohibit someone else from copying it....
