Re: What missions are you supporting #2

I 'voted', but please define 'long term'. I used to think of 'long term' as synonymous with career', or 'life time', but my intended 'life time' service turned out to be less than that, but I would still think of it as 'career', because it's the only career I ever formally trained for, and 18 years ...

Re: Man’s unusual bacon habit blamed for migraines

I wonder, can I use this 'evidence' as a way to insist that bacon be crispy? (I have suffered with migraines since HS, but never eat under-cooked anything if the choice is my own.)

Now you made me curious - is there any law governing mobile phone use while operating a human ... powered vehicle?
A lot of Amish go past our house on bikes, and I do sometimes see someone talking on a cell phone while going down the street. But most often, it is a battery bike.

Re: Russia Invades Ukraine 2022

Another interesting topic is how historically peaceful churches loose non-resistant position during the armed conflict. As far as I know the marority of (ana)baptist and Mennonite Brethren churches in Russia are staying away from the conflict and their draftees are chosing alternative civilian serv...

Of all of the kinds of 'nature' to be found in the States, the part in black is where it is for me. "Must have been a city slicker what made this."

Re: Churches, Dealerships, and Franchises

Speaking of schools run by a congregation, our two oldest attended a Beachy school during one of our furloughs, when we were still attending at a congregation in the Conservative Mennonite Conference, which was considerably less conservative than the Beachy school where they attended. Both our daugh...

Re: Churches, Dealerships, and Franchises

I'd rather be in a church with considerably different practices, in which nearly everyone in the church respects each other, than in a church with very little difference in practice, but little respect for each other or and little respect for churches who draw the lines a bit differently. I know of...

Re: Churches, Dealerships, and Franchises

The only conference structure I am familiar with is that of the Mennonite Brethren. It is congregational in organization, so the "franchise" comparison doesn't compute. It would be like if the corporate decisions of McDonald's were directed by delegates sent from each McDonald's 'restauran...

Re: The Danger of Reactionary Theology

Menno even excommunicated the Swiss Brethren for not accepting his strict views on excommunication. When was this? 1559 I believe, as a result of the Strasbourg conference of 1557. See here under (3): https://gameo.org/index.php?title=Strasbourg_Conferences Peter Hoover wrote about it in The Secret...

Re: Poll: Changing Churches / Belief Systems

Not sure where I fit here, if at all. I am a member of a congregation that has a quite different history, but I am, for the most part, unchanged in my own beliefs - they are still predominantly identical to my own background. (There are no congregations of my "faith tradition" within hund...
