Re: Sattler College Turmoil

Maybe owning your own facilities isn’t a benefit at all in terms of expenses. Even if there is no mortgage, the maintenance costs are probably astounding. Consider the other end of the spectrum, remote internet model, not physical space. Professors and students log in from their homes. This model i...

Re: Sattler College Turmoil

Here is an article from today's Washington Post which tells us that small private colleges in this country are currently closing at a rate of one per week and that the rate is accelerating. And these are mostly colleges that have far more resources than Sattler (they own their own campuses and facil...

Re: Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapse

So what were the original guesses on how long it would take them to get the harbor back open? Yesterday was exactly 2 months since the bridge collapsed https://twitter.com/WhiteHouse/status/1783854978454388819 We will see how long it takes to get the bridge replaced. That is obviously the more diffi...

Re: They call it a NEV -- a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle

Let me start by saying I was researching online about things NEV. I came across RZehr's post about NEV's. I have owned an NEV (golf cart) since 2010. I live in the Willamette Valley in Oregon and come Summer I usually drive my NEV to Micky D’s for breakfast. I have an Oregon plate and I’m legal on ...

Re: Outlawing homelessness: City of Grants Pass v. Johnson

What’s your thoughts on this case, this issue? On April 22nd 2024, the Supreme Court of the United States heard the case of Johnson v. Grants Pass. This sets the stage for the most significant Supreme Court case about the rights of homeless people in decades. At its core, this case will decide whet...

Re: Churches, Dealerships, and Franchises

If no culture is better than another culture, then it's not accurate to use the word "culture" to describe a lifestyle formed by intentional choices to live according to God's will. It seems absurd to claim that no culture is better than another culture. We can make all kinds of objective...

Re: Poll: Auto Accident Fatalities and Injuries

Regarding charges of murder, manslaughter, and intent - why is this case different than George Floyd? I think the only important difference is the outrage and politics, not objective law. I think the objective law is different too. George Floyd was already restrained in handcuffs when the incident ...

Re: Poll: Auto Accident Fatalities and Injuries

By the way, using one's phone while driving is actually MORE reckless than drunk driving. Various studies have confirmed this. Here is one: https://www.racfoundation.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/texting-whilst-driving-trl-180908-report.pdf They tested reaction times of drivers drunk, high on pot, ...

Re: Poll: Auto Accident Fatalities and Injuries

Maybe the problem here isn't the phone but the car. If he was reading sports scores on his phone while riding an Amish buggy I doubt he would have accidentally swerved into the oncoming lane and caused a crash. The difference there is he would have died rather then killed. Still breaking the law. M...

Re: Poll: Auto Accident Fatalities and Injuries

This case should be a wake up call to any Christian that we have serious problems with phones when one gets thrown in prison for crime of using them. Any of us who use a phone in a non car safe mode while driving should repent. If that isn’t enough, get rid of your smartphone while you still can ch...
