Re: US Thanksgiving

There have been days of Thanksgiving in many countries throughout history. It is good to give thanks to God, so I support a day of Thanksgiving. The Pilgrim Thanksgiving story, which should include the sins of kidnapping and slaving Boot mentioned, is mixed, but we are to give thanks in all things. ...

Re: Public Confessions: Where to draw the line?

First, I think that sin should be confessed as far as it has influenced people. Some things can be confessed to your wife, and somethings to God. If you cheated someone, you need to make it right. If the testimony of the church is hindered by what you have done, then you should probably confess it ...

Re: Blogs

New blog post here. Yes, porn can be a terrible enemy to God's people. A marriage of two people I love has turned into a separation for years. I posted this comment on the blog: I once worked with a brother who was deeply addicted to the stuff. He "repented" many times and kept falling ba...

Re: Frequency of Communion

Plow Creek (a member of Illinois Conference and MC USA) used grapes they grew themselves and squeezed themselves for their monthly communion - not alcoholic tho. Actually, at Plow Creek, we'd juice the grapes with a steamer, not squeeze them. When I lead communion, I'd use flour I made from our own...

Re: Texas Baptist Church shooting

It doesn't seem to be a common problem. The solution is primarily to be open and fearless, remaining faithful to our call to nonviolence. That is what will draw people to God.

Re: What is our opinion of the wealthy among us?

I've been a church auditor a few times, but I don't recall any particular amounts being given by a particular person. I wish I could say the same. I'm a church treasurer, and have to record each gift, by name of giver if not anonymous. When a certain person gave a series of teachings on the importa...

Re: What is our opinion of the wealthy among us?

I tend to think of James 5.

I know that's not always fair.

Re: Christianity and traditional medicine

What methods of healing were used in Bible times? Couldn't have been modern medicine. The doctors of the woman with the issue of blood took all her money, and she got worse. I've thought of this from time to time. It interests me. In the context of the question on whether to go to doctors or just u...
