Re: Charlotte Shootout

But they don't know if he is going to be compliant. Officers could do the same thing that they currently do, or call in more help. But at least they would not need to first offer themselves as a sacrifice. No they don’t. In this scenario though, someone has to approach the door. Now you have a “tac...

Re: Charlotte Shootout

Three armored vehicles could show up on the road and park in a way so that those in the first vehicle and those in the third vehicle would be able to see the back yard. Then the middle one in front of the house could call for the criminal over a loud-speaker, and tell him to come around to the back...

Re: War in Gaza

From a strategic viewpoint, I think it would have been better, originally, for Israel to tell Gazans that if they support Hamas and other militants, they should move to the north, and if not, to move to the south. And then put pressure on the people in the south to get the militants to move north. ...

Re: Churches, Dealerships, and Franchises

I wonder how your children are doing? I mean if you feel like you missed out in your upbringing maybe that could fuel your efforts as a parent in your own home now. If they are doing well, then you have reason to rejoice and build on that. Children are worth the effort even if we as NMB don't get t...

This would be true for a lot of things. For me, the energy expelled in making a big deal over some things would be better used in some other "heavier" issues.
It doesn’t take me any energy to not do something

Fire Dept - depending on the area, some fire departments rely on raffles, bingo, tractor pulls, etc for fund raising. Also some require life insurance for their members which most conservative Mennos find objectionable. This is where I must disagree. I have no problem buying gun/raffle tickets full...

Re: Charlotte Shootout

When our military clears houses in Iraq or Afghanistan, often the lead guy faces extreme risk of death due to being the first guy in. Making an effort to identify friend or foe before shooting increases the likelihood of getting shot. Hypothetically, if they had an armored car, what would they have ...

Re: Churches, Dealerships, and Franchises

I wish I could help you. I could if you were in my home town. My home congregation does an amazing job, getting people into the social network of the church. Our pastor , who I highly respect, does his level best to make seekers part of the fellowship . Per our form of church governance, there are ...

Re: Occupations that are uniquely objectionable to Conservative Anabaptists

Well, I was eating with some Nationwide people, one of the NMBs said he had to give up his job as a fire alarm installer. That blew my mind. Meanwhile, I am helping a 9th grader with an acceleration problem that requires square roots. His teacher apparently was not able to explain the formula or ho...
