Re: Define Abuse?

Abuse is basically "not the proper use". But what is the proper use of a man, a woman or a child? The definitions given in the NSPCC are relative to modern American Puritan culture. For example if you lived in former Russia - four families in one room -, you couldn't avoid that children he...

Re: Anabaptist Sex Offender Watch List

Trudy Metzger's list seems quite a good idea if it contains all potential sex offenders, i.e. all men who are possibly dangerous. I would propose that some well-known and acknowledged members of the Menno Churches have themselves included into the list - in which case it will be far more simple for ...

Re: The *official* CAM scandal links thread

The best solution in such cases is simply an improved culture: a system in which a man can publicly state the he gets aroused by little boys without fear of blame or shame - nothing more normal than this -, and the church then can soberly decide that he isn't the best choice for working at an orphan...

Re: Sawatsky: Four Streams of Anabaptism

About the place of the Munsterites - I just found the second Sawatsky, Walter, here with his dissertation (written 1977, published 2005, reviewed 2007): https://www.academia.edu/11445237/Walter_Sawatsky_History_and_Ideology_American_Mennonite_Identity_Definition_through_History Sawatsky Walter obvio...

Re: Sawatsky: Four Streams of Anabaptism

Ohio Jones added three more streams: Non-nonresistant (Hubmaier) Communitarian (Hutterites) Spiritualist (Denck, Bünderlin, Entfelder) As for Hubmaier, I think he is simply an individual between the two streams of (potentially violent) transformationists and (potentially conservative) peaceniks; his...

Re: Sawatsky: Four Streams of Anabaptism

Decades ago I collected material for a planned booklet about the origins of the peace churches, in their communication and conflict with the more "leftist" churches (as churches of violent transformationism). My basic argument was and is that the most stable and durable peacefulness stems ...

Sawatsky: Four Streams of Anabaptism

1992 by Rodney Sawatsky “The One and the Many: The Recovery of Mennonite Pluralism” published in Anabaptism Revisited; Essays on Anabaptist/Mennonite Studies in Honor of C. J. Dyck. When I first found this I thought that it is the state of scientific knowledge about Anabaptism - that which is taught...

As for the connection between Munsterites and Anabaptists I remind to you the work of Rodney Sawatsky: 1992 by Rodney Sawatsky “The One and the Many: The Recovery of Mennonite Pluralism” published in Anabaptism Revisited; Essays on Anabaptist/Mennonite Studies in Honor of C. J. Dyck.Anabaptist Strea...

The Russian-American relations

This is a topic I want to discuss systematically, independent of the Trump or the Butina case. I am very grateful to bootstrap who led me to the site "Lawfare", where we also can find the topic as a general problem. "Lawfare" is basically a website which promotes the ideas of the...

Re: Un-American activities today

Bootstrap asks: "If 951 is as fuzzy as you suggest, can you please provide more detail on what exactly you are concerned about?" Well, nowadays we cannot expect that an Anabaptist shuns penal law. But can we at least have a sober view about penal law? Penal law for a great part consists of...
