Re: Defense of Orthodoxy
What gets me is Jesus promise that the holy Spirit would remain in the church and guide it and that before he returns there would be a falling away. But according to the anabaptists the [falling away] happened at the beginning of Christianity instead of at the end like was prophesied by Jesus. If t...

Re: Defense of Orthodoxy
I'm not entirely sure what you are asking, Soloist. Are you looking for a discourse on infant baptism, icons, and liturgical theology? If so, I'd suggest you reach out to a local parish priest and start a dialogue there. If that makes you uncomfortable, maybe ask your questions at OrthodoxIntro . T...

Re: Dangers of Puritanism
First: If we really "fight", we never fight against "sins" but against sinners as humans. That's what I always say: We can't fight "Fascism" - we fight Fascist humans. In the same way cannot fight "Communism" - we fight Communist humans. Interesting question....

Re: “Split Hell Wide Open”
I heard the preacher at a Baptist church last week, and the preacher at an Apostolic church both use this phrase. While I’m familiar with the phrase, I don’t recall ever hearing it at a Mennonite church. How does going to Hell, presumably with lots of really bad unrepentant or flagrant sins, “split...

Re: Any Former Calvinists Hete?
My good friend is in a discipleship class. She was asked to in her own words explain the doctrine of election. Someone gave her this to read. John MacArthur is a Calvinist. Anyone care to "read" or listen to this & share thoughts? Personally i get troubled in spirit by full Calvinist ...

Re: The Catholic Faith in a Nutshell
Correct me if I'm wrong about this. But I think what you are missing is that in the Assembly of God church you are talking about, it is almost certainly the case that the local congregation chose its leader from among a variety of possible candidates and happened to have chosen one from outside the...

Re: The Catholic Faith in a Nutshell
Among the conservative Mennonites the deacons and ministers are local prior to ordination and generally remain as such until retirement. Bishops are a little more mixed. Ours in Oregon was local but he oversaw two other churches as well until they could ordain a bishop. At my new church, the bishop...

Re: Sermon Topics
In our church, the ministers recently put out a suggestion box for sermon topics. What are some topics you think should be addressed more often than they are (at your own church or anywhere)? Martyrs: starting with St. Stephen in the book of Acts. You could do an entire series that followed the for...
