Re: Questions about Communion / Lord's Supper
So my question comes back to "things that are holy". What of the earth that has absorbed all of that "Precious Blood" (as you call it) - Is it in some way holy? I'm wondering "where it stops". At what point can you regard something that was holy as being 'common"?...

Re: Questions about Communion / Lord's Supper
As I remember, unleavened bread at communion was not a thing until about the 6th or 7th century. Presumably, it was unleavened at the last supper. However, I don’t think communion has to be identical to Passover. For example, Passover didn’t have foot washing as part of it, yet Jesus instituted suc...

Re: Communion as a Sacrament
In Davids book he said ";The Latish speaking church referred to baptism and communion as "sacraments". The Greek speaking church referred to these same rites as "mysteries". Interestingly, Catholic scholars use the terms sacraments and mysteries interchangeably. The term My...

Re: Questions for Catholics and Orthodox
The question is WHICH doctrines? I would expect it would probably take the Roman Catholic Church dropping the twin doctrines of Papal Supremacy and Papal Infallibility for the Orthodox to even be interested. And I suspect that isn't ever happening. Forgive me! I did not explicitly answer that quest...

Re: Questions for Catholics and Orthodox
To the Orthodox I understand that the Orthodox church believes some Catholic doctrines to be heretical. If the Roman Catholic church would drop those beliefs you consider to be heretical, is that all it would take, from your perspective, for the Catholic church to again be united with the Orthodox?...

Re: Sources for Patristics, Catholic Doctrine, Orthodox Doctrine
This seems to be substantially different from how the RCC has authoritative sources. When did these differences emerge? Were these present before 1054 or did the differences develop in more recent times? I am not sure when these differences emerged. It is most likely that it developed over hundreds...

Re: Poll: Jewelry, Rings, and Bands
Coming from an Anglican background and then moving to the Orthodox Church, I cannot understand why there is such a blanket prohibition again jeweler these communities. @Ernie, can you take pity on a poor, ignorant Orthodox Christian and explain why? And maybe add in a bit of commentary regarding thi...

Re: Sources for Patristics, Catholic Doctrine, Orthodox Doctrine
To understand what the Orthodox Church teaches, I recommend these sources: The Holy Canons of the Orthodox Church Orthodox Canon Law Reference Book Are there better sources than these for people who want authoritative reference works? "Authoritative works" in the Orthodox Church is very d...

Re: Questions for Catholics and Orthodox
Before I start, please forgive me for my delay in responding to you both. Also, I thought I would link this video here. It is part of a panel discussion which I helped coordinate in which the Orthodox representative answered the question, "What is an icon." His response is apropos. Can you...

Re: Questions for Catholics and Orthodox
The accusation from Protestants is of "idol worship" regarding statues and icons. Please explain why what you do regarding statues and icons is not idolatry please? These practices don't come from Holy Scripture so how did they begin & why, what purpose and do you understand why Prote...
