Re: Seekers Gathering 2018?
Here are some topics I would like to hear discussed... I'd like to hear Ernie, Dan, Wayne, or Mike or some other person (maybe Steve Brubaker), give a compelling vision of what conservative Anabaptism can be in the 2018. A sort of Harold Bender for the 2018. I'd also like to hear somebody speak abo...

Re: Peacemaking after the Election
Here's a sneak peek: this upside down kingdom stands in marked contrast to the world in turmoil that we see around us. In just two days, the worlds last fading empire holds a presidential election that has polarized a nation, dividing it across multiple fault lines and demonstrating the brokenness a...

Re: Peacemaking after the Election
Sadly, if my social media feed is any indication, that separation of two kingdoms ship appears to have sailed, even in churches that consider themselves conservative by most measures. On another note, it provides perfect sermon material for this coming Lord's day.

Re: What are you reading?
Disappearing Church - Mark Sayers- brilliant cultural critique and a scathing indictment of the consumeristic tendencies of our congregations.

Re: Freedom of speech vs gender rights
You are spot on with your analysis of that...recently just finished leading a seminar on this topic, particularly as it relates to the conservative Anabaptist church. Certainly the eye opening part for me was that the American brothers who were there certainly (fortunately), trail we Canadians in cu...

Re: Church leadership: term limits
No, they are expected to support themselves and their families via regular income. The congregation shares a love gift 4x per year that usually works out to about 4,000 per annum per pastor.

Re: Church leadership: term limits
Its an unaffiliated Mennonite church- I'm not certain how to typify it (BMA- ish perhaps). Pastors are ordained from the laity and serve as bivocational pastors. We use the term limit for our lead pastor primarily because of concerns that we have seen with issues with control in situations where one...

Re: When people just walk away from it all....
They were living the commandments of men externally instead of loving the Lord their God with all their hearts, soul and might. Sounds abrupt, but I can't think of a more diplomatic way to say it. I think its Paul that says, Demas, having loved this present world forsook me... (loose paraphrase).

Re: Peacemaking after the Election
Ultimately, I think its a test of our Anabaptistic understanding of two kingdom theology.
