Imanuel Swedenborg
For the last several weeks, I've been reading my way through the writings of Imanuel Swedenborg. I am finding he brings an entirely new perspective on Heaven, Hell, sin, and salvation. I heartily recommend his writings. Has anyone else read any of Swedenborg's writings?

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
Maryland just declared all restaurants, gyms, churches, community activities closed. No meetings of people 50 and over. Stores, post office, bank stay open. No one can be evicted, no power/utilities can be stopped-cut off until further notice. I wonder if the Amish and the Old Order Mennonites in S...

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
Except way more people get the flu, or diseases like RSV, which seems to have hit 100% this year for ages 0 - 2. Well, coronavirus is more contagious than the flu, so more people should get it eventually. Are you sure about that? Flu outbreaks are pretty bad and have an R0 that ranges from 2 to 3. ...

Re: Coronavirus Outbreak
Flu is a little bit deceptive. For the most part it doesn't kill healthy people. The great majority of flu deaths are very old people who are already severely sick with emphysema, chronic bronchitis and other respiratory diseases and who do not have long to live anyway. The flu is kind of just the ...

Re: The history of the lot in choosing leadership
On the general Mennonite "scale", KMF still uses the lot but I'm not sure how BMA does because they use a leadership "team" of lay members to provide oversight of the congregation. Maybe they still use the lot to ordain, I honestly don't know. I work with a few BMA folks and can...

Re: What has to happen? Reforming our culture
I find it hard to believe that abortion has happened under the Amish. Might it be just a rumour. Plain People are good at producing all kinds of rumours and gossip.

Re: Forgiving those for heinous crimes
The Quakers I know say that you should look for "that which is of God" in any person you meet. That doesn't mean that there's no evil or sin in you, merely that each one of us has "that which is of God" somewhere in us. I didn't mean at all for it to sound like there is no sin o...

Re: Forgiving those for heinous crimes
I read somewhere the Quakers did believe that each person is inherently good. They said God created each of us to be good and God doesn't create evil or sin of any kind. Also, each person has enough inner light to know right from wrong at all times, no person is completely depraved. The Quakers I k...
