Re: Sattler College Turmoil

Just to put this into context, I did some asking around, both my wife’s undergrad school (Towson University) and mine (University of Maryland) have had students admitted to the Med School at Hopkins. So it does not require an “elite “ education, just a good student, with good writing and interviewi...

Re: Sattler College Turmoil

Is it possible you've forgotten to account for the Mennonite Work Ethic® again? … Inconveniently, this particular Sattler graduate has never actually been a member of a Mennonite church, but I see no need to let that stop us from crediting all his success to his Mennoniteness. After all, like all p...

Re: Sattler College Turmoil

Going to Hopkins also requires a willingness to take on LOTS of debt. It is far more pricey than in state tuition at your state university. Is it possible you've forgotten to account for the Mennonite Work Ethic® again? For instance, a different Sattler graduate I'm close to is currently being offe...

Re: “Former government lawyers say we need to limit the president's ability to deploy U.S. troops at home”

Removing the cap amounts to raising marginal rates 15%; the net effect is the tiny fraction of people who make that much would find other ways to arrange their compensation or business affairs. There are ways to prevent this. It is called shirking one’s duty to society. Rich people run society and ...

Re: “Former government lawyers say we need to limit the president's ability to deploy U.S. troops at home”

Yes, and now we have a gargantuan federal government with a gargantuan national debt, with a completely unsustainable future. Actually we do not have an unsustainable future. Just raise taxes. Social security is an example. Removing the $168,000 cap on income for the social security tax would make ...

Re: Sattler College Turmoil

Exactly. When students from a new Christian college with NO clout or reputation are getting accepted into elite medical schools, it's fairly certain they're being selected based on merit, not prestige. Which is worth thinking about in light of the copious hand-wringing in this thread over how Sattl...

Re: The israel of God

The Israel of God does not consist of Jews who reject the Messiah, and who with their bombs and lies, deceive the world that they are the "chosen race", and therefore, are exempt from all criticism. That is the antithesis of the Gospel. Who is the Israel of God? "Those who," say...

Re: Preparation for Baptism

Similar to Steve above, our Brethren groups have typically been a bit more "organic" (for lack of a better word) than most contemporary Anabaptist groups, and we simply encourage folks to attend for awhile before baptism and ask questions, engage the congregation, learn from the preaching...
