Re: The Nicene Creed

If Trinitarianism is some kind of safeguard or proof of true Christianity, then do explain why the most murderous, gluttonous, apostate churches are the very ones who initiated and defined the "Holy Trinity". I think this is a poor and tendentious reading of history - the murderous, glutt...

Re: The Nicene Creed

And Arians believed in the divinity of Christ. The particular debate was over the details of pre-existence. This is patently false. There is the Divine and there is the created - there is nothing else. You can either draw the line around Jesus to include him in the divine realm which then means eit...

Re: The Nicene Creed

What's ironic is that people think that making Jesus=God actually makes less issues. There's a spectrum of reason, yes, but I seee subordinationism across it all. What exactly makes things easier about believing that Jesus is not fully God? That's exactly what every other non-Christian sect/religio...

Re: The Nicene Creed

Who decides what is "foundational"? I think the words of Jesus are foundational - they start with ideas like "love your enemies". I find it very odd to think that extra-biblical concepts and doctrines are "foundational". It seems it is building on a foundation of sand....

Re: The Nicene Creed

The ecumenical councils would have done better to focus on the absolute and total heresy of replacing "love your enemies" with "kill your enemies". They completely failed to do so. I fail to see any value at all in the institutions they left in their wake. To think that followin...

Re: The Nicene Creed

I'd like to come out in favor of both the creeds and Trinitarian theology more specifically. I think it's a mistake to insist that because the creeds failed to mention the life of Jesus that they are in some way flawed, less-than or not valuable. So too it is wrong to assume that because some of the...

Re: 107th Conservative Mennonite Conference

I just read this in the Mennonite Weekly Review and then stumbled upon this thread. Any thoughts from anyone that was at the conference?

HZ, to clarify, you are saying that homosexual passions, lusts, and actions are still sinful, right? Sorry if I missed it.
I am, yes.

Re: "gay Christian"

Thanks for sharing that, HK. I appreciate your tone and your frankness, and I believe you are probably correct in your opinions about modern expressions of sexual identity. I'd be interested in what else you have to say about it. Thank you Mike for your kind words. The idea of homosexuality and it'...
