Re: "Give to whomever asks you": voluntary speeding fines

Around here the names of people who have run up thousands of parking tickets gets published in the paper. They like to do a list of top-10 violators, that sort of thing. My hometown of Lititz did that back in the mid-90's. They had a big problem with speeding in town. If you got cited for speeding ...

Re: Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapse

I stumbled onto the live feed last week when they were a few minutes away from blowing that bridge. That was quite the coordination of efforts to make that happen.

In my opinion, knowing a little how law enforcement works, the police would be further ahead having a squad car sit at trouble spots. Not all day, but during rush hours. Our local state police do that and it instills the seriousness of the situation. One advancement is police technology is the use o...

Re: MennoNet and Genealogy

Some time ago, I traced my dad's side back to the late 1500's while still in the Palestine region of Germany. At some point we were of the Lutheran faith once here in the Lebanon/Lancaster County. In fact, I am told my family donated the land for large Lutheran church in northern Lancaster County, a...

Re: Modern day Anabaptist perception towards postcards, handwritten letters, snail mail, etc?

I still write an occasional letter by hand, mostly to my mom, but my handwriting is horrific.... It is near impossible for me to print. If I need to fill a form out, I can start off printing but quickly revert to cursive. To that end, I can look back on my notebook at work and determine how much co...

Re: MennoNet and Genealogy

Mike and I are fourth cousins once removed, fifth cousins once removed, fifth cousins twice removed, and sixth cousins once removed, depending on which branch you look at. Poor mike. He's gonna need therapy knowing that 8-) On a serious note, my wife was 7th cousins to her own maternal grandfather.

Re: Modern day Anabaptist perception towards postcards, handwritten letters, snail mail, etc?

"Stamp it up" was some MLM that used to be popular but doesn't seem to be catching on with the younger generation. When people want fancy wedding invitations now they pay to get it done online, it seems. So that was an actual MLM? I couldn't remember. I know my wife was invited to those p...

Modern day Anabaptist perception towards postcards, handwritten letters, snail mail, etc?

I write a lot, both for my occupation as well as recreationally. I am a pen and paper snob of sorts, always trying new pens and notepads and such. Anyways, whenever I want to try a new product, I almost always search for a review on YouTube to get the lowdown on it before buying it. One channel in p...

Re: Thinking about shaving my head... sort of...

At 77, I've a shaved head, mustache and goatee. Pretty ugly but who cares at my age. Pros, I don't have to worry about my hair out of place; do all my barbering at home; keeps women from chasing after me; better for riding in a convertible; don't need a hair dryer. Cons, sun burn sometimes; razor b...
