Re: The Gospel of Jesus or Paul?

Two types of grace were mentioned in the above comment. One was "saving grace" and the other "was enabling grace". What do you think about John Wesley's teaching on "Prevenient Grace?" Is there grace to enable us to strongly seek after Christ before we actually make th...

Re: The Gospel of Jesus or Paul?

You are correct in saying that the priorities with Jesus and Paul were "You must be born again." Pilgrim I disagree. That phrase is only said a few times in the new testament. Whereas the Kingdom of God, or the Kingdom of Heaven is referenced nearly 100 times. I would say our personal sal...

Re: The Gospel of Jesus or Paul?

You are correct in saying that the priorities with Jesus and Paul were "You must be born again." Unfortunately, some people have interpreted his emphasis on "salvation by faith alone", as a fast ticket to Heaven. Paul certainly didn't mean to offer an easy way to enter Heaven, bu...

Re: The Gospel of Jesus or Paul?

Thanks for all the good responses. While N.T.Wright makes some good points, there are many things that I wouldn't agree with him on. However, as I said before, it seems that the Apostle Paul's message has been hijacked by some theologians so as to make the teachings of Jesus seem so inconsequential....

The Gospel of Jesus or Paul?

Before I begin with the topic, I would just like to say "hello" to everyone. This used to be one of my favorite websites to visit over the past 10 years, but due to other priorities, I have not always been faithful. it is wonderful of the moderator to allow me to come back, and it really g...

Re: Signing a Covenant

Over the past 35 years I have taught many Sunday School Classes (we now call them "Connection Groups") and I don't recall ever signing a covenant to teach. Apparently, my current local church has been doing this for quite some time. It is understandable that teachers need to be aware of ce...

Re: Signing a Covenant

Actually, I may have an ace in the hole. This is a large church with a lot of classes. However, there is a shortage of teachers. It's not easy to find teachers for my department. My first strategy will probably be sandbagging for as long as possible. If I get pressured, my second choice will be to c...

Re: Signing a Covenant

It does seem that the pastor is expecting all Sunday School members to go the homes of the unsaved and witness to them and invite them to church. Some people love doing that kind of thing, but no doubt they have a gift of evangelism. Unless a person has an "urgency" to do this kind of evan...

Re: Signing a Covenant

That is the big question. I would hope that they would respect by convictions about it, but who knows?
