Re: Come for the theology, stay for the culture
At the seekers' gathering, Dan Z. (I think it was) mentioned in one of his talks that many CA seekers come for the culture , then discover and stay for the theology . They may be more likely to stay than those who come for the theology , then have to figure out how to integrate into the culture . T...

Re: Job openings, work needed
“Well-rounded” subjects like you described churn out liberal progressives. A conservative Christian culture just doesn’t co-exist very long with chasing the things of the world. The concept of high school education is a relatively new one; it would be prudent to research more into when it came into...

Re: Job openings, work needed
One last comment, My previous statements only pertained to educational quality. I purposely did not factor in the positive atmosphere that a conservative Mennonite school has on its students. This is always the kicker given to me. I can't argue that this factor is extremely important in molding the...

Re: Job openings, work needed
Conservative Mennonites generally reject higher education, with some notable exceptions. Given the results their culture gets versus the results I see from high school only public school education on average, and average college education, and American culture in general, I think I’ll stick with ho...

Re: Job openings, work needed
York’s city school district is amongst the worst performing in PA (I believe it’s ranked #3 from the bottom, or was). The average American doesn’t have the option to be in a “good” middle-class (or upper middle-class) school district. Many of them have to contend with school districts that operate ...

Re: Job openings, work needed
If you are literate you can probably just ignore that qualification. An 8th grade church school education is equivalent to a high school education in many American school districts, or might even exceed one in underperforming school districts. I’ve never had any employer ask to see my diploma much ...

Re: Recently attended an EPMC Bible School AMA
I recently ran into a situation where someone is planning the mission trips they want to go on based on the schedule of volleyball tournaments 5 months in advance. Without sharing too many personal details, some things are really out of whack about this. Maybe the Easterns are on to something here....

Re: Recently attended an EPMC Bible School AMA
They should (in theory) want to be spending time edifying the Lord in their activities. Singing songs of praise to the Lord, working hard, spending time with their family. The Eastern view is that they should be grown up and responsible well before they are ready to get married. I grew up with this...

Re: Recently attended an EPMC Bible School AMA
Curious - Is this "play mentality" meaning they consider this environment should be focused on work and not play or does this mean something else ? There was a evening message given on the importance of sobriety during one's youth at Bible School. One of the points was that there is no wh...

Re: Recently attended an EPMC Bible School AMA
Rumor was Meadow Springs (the group that pulled out of Weaverland) might give oversight temporarily to ordain a bishop, but I'm not sure what the plan is for them. They also feel that Eastern has slipped on enforcement of standards quite a bit. They want consistency in enforcement, more of a hardli...
