Re: Segregated congregations in a denomination

That Clayton Shenk sounds like an admirable man. Sorry to digress from Boot's more practical question. I’m white and have been in majority black congregations since around 2003, and off and on before that from 1990 - 1998. Our fellowship – primarily white to start with - made sincere efforts to root...

Re: Sunday School vs. Church Attendance?

Thanks for that perspective. Its been so long since I’ve lived anywhere other than urban/suburban areas, I’ve forgotten how daily life might be meshed with a spiritual community (other than “meetings”) where the responsibilities of family/livelihood look different than what I’m used to.

Re: Sunday School vs. Church Attendance?

This topic has come up recently, though a slight detour from Sunday attendance. I’m thinking about children’s sporting events and other distractions that increasingly take ...

Re: Old, New or Both

Well said Bootstrap. In addition to the other things shared, I try to keep these things in mind when reading the Old Testament: The early Christians' bible was the OT. They converted people by proving that Jesus was the Christ from the OT prophecies. The ability to do that is just as important today...

Re: Conversion

People with good hearts will come to the conclusion that how you live matters to God…even if they arrive at that through various questionable convolutions. But I also think its an understatement to say that Spurgeon overstates the case. :) Most certainly our very existence depends on God…and without...

Re: "One True Church and related topics."

Hello. The discussion has moved on from references to the COC and ICOC, but I'll throw this in nonetheless. I'm a long time member of both the CoC and the ICOC, where I'm currently still a member. We are (in)famous for being one-true-churchers. Though that is changing, slowly. You can generalize but...
